Hello to all Dinosaur Jr. fans. I’ve been a longtime admirer of the group and it’s good to see a lot of supporters of the band to the present day.

I’d like to ask: who is the girl that appears at the end of the "Start Choppin" video, the one whose face appears at the background in a screen when individual members of the group are highlighted? I’ve never forgotten that girl despite not having seen the video in years and I’d like to know more about her. Thanks.

Not sure but I know some of the kids are from long island. Somebody told me once they were on a bus and to NYC and were asked if they wanted to be in a video and ended up in the video.

Seriously? That would be cool. I am a big Virgin Suicides fan.

I never really liked the Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. I think TS Eliot was a very overrated poet. But it’s nice to see more sophisticated influences on people nowadays.

              P.S. read some Allen Ginsburg.

Ginsberg is the reason I am where I am now – Let’s just say, literature is my life..

I read Ginsberg for the first time in 8th grade and it changed me somehow. Some of my colleagues actually had the opportunity to sit in on some his readings/performances back in beat days..

Have you ever heard the Sonic Youth song "Hits of Sunshine: Ode to Allen Ginsberg"

                P.S. I still love Eliot

In high school I got into Emily Dickinson, John Donne, Walt Whitman, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. There were some others I thought were cool too, but hated always having to read all that Robert Frost crap.

If I were to pick a songwriter who I thought wrote beautiful poems it would be Robert Smith, and Greg Dulli. A lot of their stuff is just classic.

I used to want to be a Lit Prof. until I fell in love with architecture and engineering. In hindsight its probably good that I don’t teach Lit or have a job that requires me to write, I don’t think I would enjoy it as much if I did. That would be a shame.

                  Do you teach Betty?

I teach English Comp at the U of Memphis. I love teaching, but it can suck you dry. It really is a job and a half with a rip-off salary. Still, I couldn’t give it up for the world.

My husband is working on his Engineering degree at the moment. I really admire those of you who have the ability to undertake such a difficult subject matter. Words – yes. Numbers/Figures/Design – no.

Whitman and Donne are two others that I love as well. I have always considered Donne’s "A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning" to be one of the best love poems of all time.

As for Robert Smith, he is nearly as good as J when it comes to lyrics..

I figured you’d be a little older teaching at the U of Memphis. You must be amazingly smart, don’t you need at least a masters to teach college level courses?

I have a Masters. It is not impossible to teach college at this age. You just have to really love what you do and work hard for it. I have never lost sight of what I wanted to be – a professor of literature. I have been in school non-stop since I was five years old and in kindergarten.

Age doesn’t really matter so much. I have to be a bit more of a hard ass to get respect from the students, but after the first week or so, they know what I’m about.

I have an old soul. It can be a burden sometimes.

I’ve always thought that the Beat poets were and are incredibly overrated. Then again, what do I know? I prefer medieval English poetry.

Which poets do you like? I can appreciate any poetry, but I am mostly into the modern poets.
