) Once, as he was watching the opening band, he stood in front of me, and he was, like, an inch or two shorter than me. I’m 5’10". Once, he passed me by while watching another opening band and, still, he looked shorter than me (or almost my size). So, why is it than when I said ‘how ya doin’ and/or stood in front of him this time, he was, like, 6 foot tall or something

I ready to move on to his weight and favorite ice cream flavor, but we should save those for the low times, freakscene does have it’s low times……………..perhaps we are in one right now.

maybe the problem is that so many people, hardcore or indie, have chosen to embrace celebrity culture from the mainstream and apply it to punk rock people, Nike shoes aside.
i for one could care less how tall J is, or what he likes to eat, or what his favourite colour is. i embrace the idea that we would have little in common if we met, save an appreciation for music which certifiably kicks ass.
let musicians be musicians, not ‘interesting people’.

)agreed. being into a great band is way better than square dancing.
but one of the reasons why i got into hardcore/alt-blahblahblah/punk rock way back is because i felt those things provided a viable alternative to the bullshit i am bombarded with when i leave the house…like celebrity culture, for example.
nevertheless, i can’t hate on people who want to delve deeply into all things Mascis, because it’s interesting stuff to find out about. and i read it all, though i am seldom interested enough to post. call me another lurker who periodically chimes in with his two cents, meaningless though that may be.
