Hey there. I’m 23, have been a Dinosaur Jr fan since I was 14. I heard the name Dinosaur Jr, maybe when I was about 12, and then one night on the radio in Buffalo, NY, there was a D Jr special. This was the first time I had heard any this bands songs. I remember "Show Me the Way" (Frampton remake), "Green Mind," "So What Else Is New," and "Feel the Pain." To say that J Mascis has changed my life is an understatement. It’s safe for me to say that Dinosaur Jr and J Mascis & the Fog are *THE* greatest two bands of all time, and anyone I know who doesn’t like D Jr or the Fog is not entitled to their own opinion! LOL.

I’m a guitarist. Mostly play rythym and a lot of accoustic these days. J has been the biggest influence on me, but I’ve played guitar since I was 12, so when I first heard Dinosaur Jr, I was shocked to hear a band that actually played melodies/chords that I like. "Whatever’s Cool With Me" is a classic example of the kind of melody I love so much.
Well, I don’t live in NY anymore. I live in Arizona. Phoenix area, and would love to meet other guitarists who are into J and Dinosaur Jr. Nice to be here.

October 29, 2006 at 4:23 pm #122880Hey, thanks for the welcome
. Yeah, I loved hearing Dino for the first time and haven’t been able to live without ever since. Well, I think I made it pretty clear that Dino and J + the Fog are by far my favorites. What other bands to I like? hrmmm. Lets see, depends on my mood and it varies. Some examples of other bands I like would be (these are not in any order and this list does not cover all that I like):Jim Croce
The Mindbenders
Danzig
Misfits
Black Sabbath
Superchunk
Guided By Voices
Lemonheads
Eagles
Beatles
Mamas & the Papas
Weezer
Smashing Pumpkins
Teenage Fanclub
Supergrass
Jesus & Mary Chain
Flogging Molly
Sebadoh

some of my favorites in there(Superchunk,GBV,Teenage Fanclub)Yeah man, that’s awesome. Pop-rock that’s played REALLY LOUD, even to the point you can hardly hear the vocals is usually my favorite. It’s the melodies that always hit me on a soul-level, so to speak. Do you play guitar at all? Piano will work to for what I’m talking about, but do you get any kind of emotional (I’m not talking neurotic, LOL) reaction if you were to play chords like C…. FMaj7…. and then Em? That’s just one of my examples.
October 30, 2006 at 8:15 am #122886I mess around with the guitar sometimes but never got all that good with it.I took lessons for awhile but at the time music had`nt hit me in a big way yet.Maybe if it had been later on I would`ve been more into it.
I like lots of different music besides rock:Jazz, blues, folk, country, etc.October 30, 2006 at 8:24 am #122887Yeah, I like most kinds of music except for the snot-nosed crap that’s popular on the radio.
Hrmmm. Been playing guitar, both accoustic, electric and some bass for about 11 years and I still suck at lead. There are people that have only played guitar for 2 or 3 years that can play lead MUCH better than me, so I’ve pretty much stuck with rythym with "litte riffs." heheh.

I live in the Phoenix AZ area and I’m a drummer. It’s cool to hear of someone in Phx that’s into Dinosaur Jr. I saw them the first time in 1989 at the 9:30 Club In DC. I’ve seen them 5 times since then, the most recent being in Vegas 2005. My 2 favorite CDs are live at the Carling Academy and the new one live from Boston Nov 06. I hope they come to Phoenix on their new tour.
