(…except for that "counting band"… you remember the one who went 8-6-7-5-3-oh-9… they aren’t from Richmond but what the hell).
July 23, 2001 at 4:44 pm #61069Is that counting band Unrest?the song is six layer cake if that`s the one your talking about.
I have a magazine that mentions Richmond having alot of math rock bands,I`ll look for it later and post what they say later.
Math rock is usually associated with 70`s bands like King Crimson(they`re touring with Tool, you hear about that?)it has come to be in indie rock circles bands like Don Cabbalero from Pittsburgh. There was this band from Richmond called Breadwinner, from the early 90`s,there is some mp3`s by them at mp3it.com,click on the browse section and scroll down.July 23, 2001 at 4:46 pm #61070
quote:
Originally posted by salamiguy:

Buzz words
"Math rock-although it has come to describe the indie rock decendents of Louisville Kentucky and like minded chicago breathen, the term originally referred to the kind of icy precise rock of bands like King Crimson. The form relies upon technically intricate time signatures and guitar playing, requiring an acumen beyond the reach of most three chord rockers.Richmond,Virginia has spawned its fair share of math rock bands, including Breadwinner and Confessor, but New york city`s Helmet and Pittsburgh`s Don Caballero also fit the bill." -
