Last year’s album ‘Nothing stops moving’ made it into my top 10 album list of last year, and this one is even better. Obvious influences are Wilco and the Replacements. 15 beautiful songs (..only 40 minutes….), a beautiful production, what could one wish for more on the day before Christmas?

ps. Sad Mafioso: my current favourites on the ‘Acuarela Songs’: Aroah, Dakota Suite, Paula Frazer, Sodastream and Virgil Shaw

i’ve been in san diego for the holidays and did some used cd hunting, quite successfully. one chain was having a sale, up to 75 percent off of their clearance discs, so i got a bunch of stuff for .75 to a 1.25. some of them are things i have already and bought another of to sell to a high paying record store up here in order to make a profit.

these are the cheap ones i found:

grant mclennan – watershed
lightning seeds – cloudcuckooland
scrawl – nature film
scrawl – velvet hammer
robyn hitchcock – gotta let this hen out (was $9)
pell mell – interstate
young fresh fellows – electric bird digest
chris stamey – fireworks
jps experience – elemental
the jazz butcher – condition blue
straitjacket fits – melt

miraculously, i found these used at the wherehouse, one of the worst damn record stores (chains anyway) on earth:

the clean – unknown country
peter holsapple – out of my way
jason and the scorchers – essential vol 1 – are you ready for the country (esp. excited about this one)

I unfortunately have yet to experience the live chaos of Bardo Pond or Godspeed. They always roll through Ohio, play in some college town, and then I find out about it days later.

Scrawl might no longer be together? Their drummer moved to Sweden, and the lead lady (Marcy Mays) has been doing some solo piano performances set to silent movies. Interesting. I’ll refrain from making a Cat Power comparison.

I think Spoon, Scrawl and the Archers of Loaf need to get together and throw a big ‘Elektra had their heads up their asses’ party All 3 were dropped almost immediately after their best albums were released.

Jamie-thanks for the Scrawl info.Yeah,Elektra was crazy to drop those bands.Welcome to the boards,Jamie cool to have you here.

Allison-hope you found some Silkworm albums,I had a hard time finding them around here. You might have to do the order thing,I`m thinking of doing the same thing with the albums by them I don`t have.Firewater is the album to get first,it`s an hour long,16 songs, the best album they`ve done yet.
I recommend the other albums too if you see them around.

Maxini-Radio Birdman rawk!

Wanna bring on your lawyer? If I’m gonna be making such a good living, be sure that I’ll have my own team of law machines awaiting your attempt.
