"Crooked Rain Crooked Rain"- Pavement.
Very enjoyable listen. Not as brilliant as critics claim it is, but great record: melodic, raw, gritty, laid back. Great.January 4, 2002 at 2:34 am #68149Well hey Culo, thanks for the compliment I’m pretty proud of just how immature I can get
Jeremiah thanks for that link, always forget to look there. I found zippo on my Silkworm hunt thru several stores…sucks…so will be doing the order thing for sure. I did find a very cool Universal Monster Mummy Bobble Head Doll thou so it wasn’t a total loss. Be careful out there, seems your getting a taste of crappy weather that your not used to…I was aiming for Mattman with that cold air…missed again

January 4, 2002 at 11:50 pm #68153Crooked rain Crooked rain is the better of the pavement albums. Over the week I got, the Replacement (circa 1981) and Sonic Youth (circa 1986). Needed a history lesson.
January 5, 2002 at 4:04 am #68154"Everything’s Fine" is my favorite "mellow, acoustic, folky" album. It’s brilliant. One of the most moving albums ever made.
January 5, 2002 at 5:48 pm #68155I just bought:
Spain – The blue moods of Spain
The first album of this fine band, very quiet melancholic songs, a beauty. I bought it for a few guilders (in euro’s it was nearly for nothing. ).Smashing Pumpkins – Under the covers
20 covers played by the Pumpkins, from ‘Rock on’, via ‘Godzilla’ to ‘Rudolph the red nosed reindeer’. It’s a bootleg, all live stuff, great sound-quality!January 7, 2002 at 10:37 am #68156den buck-I bought that Spain album last summer, yeah it`s pretty good,Josh`s voice took some getting used to.His dad is Charlie Haden, one of the world`s greatest jazz bass players, his sisters were in That Dog but you problably already know that. That song Spiritual,Johnny Cash covered it on his Unchained album.
January 7, 2002 at 9:28 pm #68157Nick Drake-Bryter Layter-Wow!
January 12, 2002 at 10:08 pm #68158Walkabouts – Death Valley Days (lost songs and rarities 1985 to 1995)
It was on sale for a few euros (still getting used to them). It’s got some fine covers, like ‘On the beach’ and ‘Like a hurricane’ from Neil Young, ‘Cello Song’ from Nick Drake and ‘Yesterday is here’ from Tom Waits amongst others, the Walkabouts know how to choose their covers!Actually I’m going to see the Walkabouts at the Melkweg in Amsterdam tomorrow evening, looking forward to it!
January 14, 2002 at 3:17 pm #68159The Walkabouts were in very fine form yesterday evening, they played for about two hours, the overall sound was a little more robust and rockier than on their latest record, with Chris Eckman throwing in the occasional Neil Young-ish guitar-solo, all in all, a very good show!
After the show I had the opportunity to talk to Chris & Carla, they wished that they had recorded this show instead of last evening’s show in Brussels…..
I also got the following cd’s from them last night:
Chris & Carla – Come as you aren’t
C & C live in Brussels, including a fine twelve-minute version of Neil Young’s ‘Cortez the killer’, a ‘bootleg’, not available in the shops, my copy is signed by both Chris & Carla…Walkabouts – Drunken soundtracks
a new collection of non-album tracks and rarities, not in the shops until late this spring….Transmissionary Six – idem
Project from Walkabouts drummer Terri Moeller together with Paul Austin from the Willard Grant Conspiracy, also not yet available in any shop….Nice people, those Walkabouts!!!!
January 14, 2002 at 4:05 pm #68160den buck-cool you got to meet the Walkabouts, good band.I have`nt heard alot by them but I like what I have heard, love their cover of Townes Van Zandt`s Snake Mountain Blues.I liked when Carla sang with the Tindersticks on Traveling Light.
