Neil Halstead – Sleeping on roads
Great solo-album from ex-Slowdive and Mojave 3 frontman. Obvious influences: Dylan and Nick Drake, very fine songs, with ambient-techno artist Mark Van Hoen (aka Locust) adding some very fine synthesizer-stuff……

Willard Grant Conspiracy & Telefunk – In the Fishtank
WGC and Dutch electronic band Telefunk doing six traditionals, recorded in a couple of days in a small studio. A strange combination, but it works out great, Telefunk add some subtle electronics to WGC’s acoustic music, and singer Robert Fisher is in top form (a great voice in the Cohen/Cave tradition)

Hi Spaceboy, I’ve bought Idaho’s ‘Levitate’ as well a couple of weeks ago. Funny thing is that Jeff Martin’s voice somehow reminds me a little of J.’s voice, while the music sometimes sounds like a cross between Wheat and Low, two other great bands. All in all a very fine album!!!!

                I dont Hear J’s voice
He reminds me sometimes of the voice of Mark Eitzel from American Music Club <img>

                  today i bought:

                  lyres–on fyre.

scott walker–scott 4. this guy is crazy, but the songs on this album arent’ as crazy as some of the other stuff of his i’ve heard. neko case covered his ‘duchess’, which is on this one.

slim cessna’s auto club–s/t. got their other album, ‘always say please and thank you’, last week, and it was so good that i had to get this one already. its kind of fucked up country music with lots of yodeling and useage of the word ‘goddamn’. just on a couple listens ‘always say please’ seems to be a better album, and slim even says its their best work, but the self-titled one is good too. theres also a guy in the band who looks like he’s dead–seriously.

BR-Scott Walker`s cool;strange guy I agree,he was a big influence on David Bowie,Nick Cave,Tindersticks, etc. he made a comeback a few years ago with an album on Drag City.

BR – Slim Cessna sounds nice, going to try to find some of their stuff here in Holland….

                      I just bought:

Veranda Music – Look of Joy
German band (a cross between Mojave 3 and Palace Music) make an album full of very fine covers: ‘Water of Love’ (Dire Straits), ‘Dallas’ (Silver Jews), ‘Riding’ (Palace), ‘Shake the disease’ (Depeche Mode) among them, fine album!

The Microphohones – Glow, part 2
22 songs, 66 minutes, ranging from soft ballads to pure noise, not as lo-fi as their previous albums, obvious influences: Eric’s Trip (they covered ET’s ‘Sand’ on their previous album by the way) and My Bloody Valentine. A wonderfully strange, strangely wonderful album!
