The Saga Continues:
I just bought: Spinvis
The new wonderboy from Holland
Strange but wonderfully beautiful
Inspired by Sigur Ros, Basement Jaxx, Belle & Sebastian, to name a fewReleased on April 1, 2002
April 5, 2002 at 8:30 pm #69159Uncle Tupelo 89/93: An Anthology
Great 21 track compilation from this great band, including some unreleased and hard to find stuff (great cover of ‘I wanna be your dog’ as well….)Mark Eitzel – Music for courage and confidence
Album full of covers from ex American Music Club frontman. Covers range from Culture Club (‘Do you really want to hurt me’) through Curtis Mayfield (‘Move on up’) to Phil Ochs (‘Rehearsals for retirement’), all done in a relaxed, quiet, way, nice one…April 6, 2002 at 9:13 am #69160dEUS – No More Video
A cool dvd with all the videos, interviews, pictures, demo’s & lots of other cool thingies
April 10, 2002 at 10:26 am #69161Since I have been having shit luck with the lame record shops around here decided to hit a used store yesterday. Found a couple sorta cool deals, all for between two and five bucks so hey!
Atlantic Soul Classics, not a bad deal two bucks for some wicked songs…tons of predictable hits like respect by Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Wilson Picket and more.
Just love Green Onions by Booker T & The MG’s and Tighten Up by Archie Bell & The Drells…too cool
Couple singles by Urge Overkill…Sister Havana and Somebody Else’s Body
Slaughter and The Dogs…The Punk Singles Collection, have some of this on vinyl but still no turntable Just love you’re a bore and Quick Joey small
William S Burroughs & Gus Van Sant, The Elvis of Letters…good thing this one was only two bucks
Allison
Grant Hart seems to have borrowed a bit from that Tighten up song by Archie Bell for his song Children of The Street…hmmmm

April 10, 2002 at 10:51 am #69162Allison-the Atlantic Soul Classics is a cool collection,in the original Blues Brothers movie you can see them pop it in their tape deck before the cops chase them at the around the start of the movie. If you see the Best Of Chess Rhythm And Blues compilation around check that out,it`s more soul then blues actually, lotta good stuff on that.
Green Onions was based on a John Lee Hooker song called Onions, they just added green to the title.April 10, 2002 at 11:15 am #69163Hey!
Thanks for the recommendation, they do have a wicked blues section at that store so will check it out. Although I had the need to wash my hands after being in that store…YIKES it was sooooo dirty in there They had a lot of Flaming Groovies that I may just have to go back and get along with a live 13th Floor Elevators.
Fingers crossed the local stores selection improves in the near future…or I may go MAD
Gotta love your new sig, I love brains and blondes

Don’t know if any of you guys over in the US will have heard of this band. They’re kinda lo-fi influenced by J, Pavement, Pixies, Sebadoh, that sort of thing.
One of my fave bands anyhow, and they’ve just released a CD of demos etc form they’re last album, "When do we start fighting" – available at
Well worth getting, and if you haven’t got the album, get it, i promise that you’ll like it!!
John
Forgot to say, they’ve still got a few live dates left in the states too before coming back over here for a headline tour – dates on the website

April 11, 2002 at 12:05 pm #69165Went out this morning despite my post flu state, kinda dizzy but was able to go anyway;went to HMV,they had Bob Mould`s Modulate for $25.99,for a mediocre album?pass!I`ll have to find a better price then that.Much the same stuff there so I went to Future Shop, they did`nt have the Mould album and a pretty boring rock section;the jazz section was cool though, small but they had some cool stuff I have`nt seen around in several years!so I bought:
Bill Evans-Everybody Digs Bill Evans
Eric Dolphy-Out There(last time I saw this cd in a store was 10 years ago!)
and from the rock section:
PJ Harvey-Stories From The City Stories From The Sea(3 dollars less then HMV)
then I bought some Kleenex April 11, 2002 at 9:08 pm #69166Hey Canadian Salamiguy
I would suggest checking some used cd places for Modulate…no doubt it would be a better deal. Mine cost over 40 bucks…ouch The live ldaps disc will probably be cool, definitely gonna check that one out…locally though, exchange, duty and tax pretty much double some discs price
About that dizzy post flu state, sounds like you needs fluids and some vitamin c…cranberry coloured beverage with absolute sounds like a plan
Hope your feeling better, or at least feeling no pain…absolute will do that for you

April 11, 2002 at 10:45 pm #69167There`s problably a good chance that Modulate will be in a used store;so yeah hopefully it`ll pop up there,I would`nt mind spending $30 for it if it was a solid album but since it`s not,the used thing seems to be a good option.
I feel better with the flu but yet it seems to hang on,the congestion and dizzyness especially;I`ll have to have more fluids I guess.
I know what you mean by used stores being dirty, there`s one here with bad air quality so much you might pass out if you stay too long they have a cool selection of old vinyl and import cd`s,you could stay there all day looking around.April 12, 2002 at 9:49 am #69168Hey everyone, probably Allison in particular I guess
What’s Modulate like? I can order it from the website but I get hit with postage, tax etc which makes it approx $30.00 – is it worth it?
I think the chances of me hearing any on the radio over here to make my own mind up are like a very limited!

April 12, 2002 at 10:49 am #69170Hey John,
You might want to check bobmould.com to make sure you can get it in the uk. Think I read on his bulletin board there is some sort of import ban on his disc…
It sounds just too mega mega for me, if you know what I mean Some of the new songs just don’t work for me, there are some good songs on the disc though, kinda sound like sugar songs so thats cool. Just be prepared, shocked the hell out of me initially
