Yeah, The Seeds were great. I especially love the "live in the Hollywood Bowl" record. The studio albums are quite tame.
Sky Saxon was a great performer then. I always wondered why they’ve never been that famous (Sky Saxon may have asked himself the same question, I think)September 8, 2001 at 10:36 pm #65502Palace Brother wrote

It’s a new cd, it’s only been in the shops for a few weeks here in Holland (it’s on ‘Stockholm Records’)
A Swedish journalist writes:
Jan Gradvall skriver:
Although I don’t understand a word of it, I think he’s quite right! September 10, 2001 at 8:11 am #65503Hey Den Buck, loosely translated in a hurry
Jan Gradvall writes:"When Nina Persson, accompanied by Nathan Larson, did a cover of "The Bluest Eyes In Texas," a song by the unhip country outfit Restless Heart, she fell in love with country music. Just like there’s a Paris, Texas, this recording, aswell as the whole album, sounds as if there’s a Jønkøping, Texas. Nina Person has never sounded better. Earlier her voice sounded like a cocktail(lovefool), it now resembles bourbon. Nina Person from Jønkøping, Texas has debuted as a solo artist with this years best swedish album."
September 10, 2001 at 10:48 pm #65504Well, bärnstensfärgad bourbon means amber colored bourbon, even. Why that would be of any importance I dunno. I’ve heard that album though, and it’s sweet, but in my humble opinion not as great as Mr. Gradvall (who is funny looking little man btw , seen him here in Stockholm many times) makes it out to be.
Cheers, Max
September 17, 2001 at 4:22 am #65505Hey Salamiguy,
Followed your suggestion and checked out Future Shop this w/e for a Sparklehorse disc…with success!!!!! Picked up Good Morning Spider…love it, actually haven’t stopped playing it much this w/e…too cool. Gotta say a big whoohoo to enhanced discs, love getting the extra videos included. Thanks for the suggestion, never imagined I could pick up something pleasing at F/S but hey like being proven wrong most times. Still searching for the long name disc, like searching though

September 17, 2001 at 10:29 am #65506Hey Allison
Congrats on getting Good Morning Spider! It is a cool album,my fav tune is "Happy Man" which for some reason reminds me of Guided By Voices(I`d love to here them cover it)"Sick Of Goodbyes" reminds me of watching tv the last few days and the memorials for the people killed last tuesday, saying goodbye to thousands of people is pretty sad.Daniel Johnston`s "Hey Joe" is a great choice for a cover song,I forget the name of one of the tunes but he quotes Lou Reed and Tom Waits in it-"I`ve come to hate my body…"from VU`s"Candy Says" and "In a bathroom of a Texaco" is a Waits lyric from his song "Gun Street Girl".On the first album he quotes Neil Young on one song.Cool that he does those references!
Future Shop I check occasionally for cool stuff, last year I saw MC5`s Kick Out The Jams there for $9.99.I usually buy blank tapes there because they have the best price around here. When I bought Good Morning Spider there 2 years ago I also bought Social Distortion`s Live At The Roxy and Tom Waits`s Heartattack And Vine,I was pleased with those 3 albums.
Look for the first album at used stores,it`ll problably pop up there. There also 2 eps to watch out for-"Chords I`ve Known" and "Distorted Ghost".September 17, 2001 at 3:49 pm #65507Hey Salamiguy,
Happy Man is my fav as well, just love Cruel Sun and Pig as well…very cool sounds. Sick of Goodbyes defintely is another good one, first time I heard it I thought it was a Matthew Sweet song, on Hey Joe the guy sounds a bit like Marc Bolan to me. Cool lines the guy uses for sure, checking out some used places this afternoon…fingers crossed

Just curious what songs are on Dinosaur Jr Wasted Lovesongs?
Allison
ps Happy belated B’day
September 20, 2001 at 11:20 am #65512Turnipfarmer-sounds like you checked out some of the bands I mentioned, cool!
I`ve been listening to Lush, yesterday I`ve listened to Gala ,Spooky is good,Spilt is good as well though the critics hate it,Lovelife is more of a Brit pop sound then dream pop but it does have some good songs on it.
The Sundays I`m not sure I mentioned before, maybe I did,Static And Silence is great, the other two albums are good as well. We`re problably gonna be viewed as wimps for liking this kind of music,I don`t care!
Check out Autour De Lucie,it`s in a Sundays/Cranes/Ivy vein, they`re from France.really nice mellow stuff.Like Allison said what`s on that Dinosaur album you mentioned?
September 20, 2001 at 11:22 am #65513hey Allison,
sorry I don’t have the complete tracklist in my mind right now but it’s alike "Dinosaurs Are Still Alive". it was recorded 91 in Vancouver/California and has ‘Freak’, ‘Lung’, ‘Tarpit’ and ‘Blowin’ on it. I already have it as a cdr but got the original yesterday from ebay for 21 Deutschmarks and now waiting for delivery.
