Last thing I heard from Hansione was that he was going to see ‘And you will know us by the trail of dead’ on Friday night, he probably forgot to put on his bulletproof vest…..
May 5, 2002 at 12:14 pm #73718Trail of death were…loud!!!
It was a good gig, these guys can play. Drummer becomes singer, singer becomes drummer, bassguitarist turns into a rythmguitartist, its like the old days with "the band". One big difference, these guys are loud, and when I say loud I mean LOUD.
They had an "original" way of avoiding an encore. After five quarters they smashed all the instruments. The bass was cracked in two pieces, guitars smashed and the drumkit, all over the place. Come on guys, grow up! Ten minutes after the show they mixed up with the crowed and I had the chance to give the drummer (wich one of the two) a handshake and a tip on his shoulder…He was sooking wet. Hard labour.
Good concert in the old hall of de melkweg. But I stil hear this high pitched note in my head. And…Allison, They call this band EMOCORE, don’t believe it, its LOUDCORE…and I love it!May 5, 2002 at 3:44 pm #73719Hansione-sounds like it was a good gig;definitely a cool band

May 12, 2002 at 6:14 pm #73720Lloyd Cole, 8th may, Paradiso Big Hall.
It was a seated concert wich meant the bar was closed. Lloyd has become older, greyer and more fat, but whats new pussycat. He was an indie-star in the eighties and he still writes great songs about love (forbidden / bad / good / etc) . Ofcourse he played some of his big hits like rattlesnake and Lost weekend but most of the songe where from more recent times. He was totaly solo and he seemed to be relaxed, he messed up a couple of times but he didn’t seem to bother, he just started the song again and carried on. Nice little stories in between the songs. Yeah I had a good time there…

Dick Dale at the Majestic Theatre, Detroit
I’ve been a fan of Dick Dale’s for years, but this was actually my first time seeing him live. He was great. I can’t believe that this guy is almost 60. He uses bass strings on his guitar, and still tremelo picks better than anyone. I don’t know how is arm doesn’t fall off. His tone is so unique.
This guy is a living legend. He’s done as much for guitar as anyone in the last 40 years. Jimi Hendrix has even written a song about Dick Dale. I strongly encourage all fans of the guitar to check out Dick Dale live. He played his classics, some new material, and even covered House of the Rising Sun and Smoke on the Water. I’ll never miss Dick Dale when he comes to my area again.May 16, 2002 at 10:50 pm #73723Too bad he always seems to be an arrogent Asshole. Just read any interview with him, or even the bio on his website. He may have had an impact on music, but it can’t be as big as he thinks. Besides, it is physically impossible for an amplifier to burst into flames from sheer playing power.
May 16, 2002 at 11:24 pm #73724Malcolm,
I agree with you on the arrogant issue.
I used to think he was very arrogant based on quotes I had read. I think his quotes may have actually kept me from going to some of his other concerts. I went to see him last night, because I know he cant play forever. I wanted to see a legend play. I would’ve hated to say I missed seeing Hendrix, if I had the opportunity to do so.
I was pleasantly surprised by Dick Dale though. He sat down after the show, signed autographs, and talked to anyone that wanted to talk to him. He was very friendly, and nicer to his fans than most bands I’ve ever seen. He encouraged his fans to send him an email. I sent him an email today, and he sent me an eamil back the same day.
I admit that I’ve read a ton of horrible Dick Dale qoutes, but I’m glad I did go see him live, and I won’t miss him when he comes again.May 17, 2002 at 5:29 pm #73725If you like Dick Dale`s music and guitar instrumental stuff, check out some of Mickey Baker`s late 1950`s stuff, the Wildest Guitar album on Atlantic is a good one,it has some jazz standards done as reverby guitar instrumentals, very cool stuff

PSOI kicked the evening off, and they rocked! No ‘show’ at all, just great songs played excellently, on some songs they were joined by Wilco doing all kinds of percussion-stuff, fun to see!Well, what can I say about Wilco, to me their album ‘Yankee Hotel Foxtrot’ is the ‘album of the year’ thus far, but they were even able to improve these songs live, great songs, great sound, Jeff Tweedy looked and sounded like he enjoyed himself mightily, PSOI joined Wilco on a couple of songs, amazing gig! The encores ended with a truly ROCKING cover of ‘TV Eye’ performed by the ‘Preston School of Wilco Industry’
Gig of the year!!!!!
ps. also fun to see that these two bands like, respect and enjoy each other……
May 28, 2002 at 3:22 pm #73731It was a very cool gig, also nice to see and hear PSOI doing a cover of ‘Three Grains’ from de Artsen…..
Well, next gig coming up tomorrow night: Chuck Prophet
