All I can say is I LOVED IT. I was not expecting the "twist" if you know what I mean.
I think it is the best film I have seen so far this year.

I said the best film I have seen all year but the year is new, I meant to say the best film I have seen in over a year………..

Oh wait. Is Epic Movie that one that is.. epic? I’m sort of confused by the title. Can’t they at least give some indication of the content of a film by naming it something appropriate?

I mean. Jeez. Volver is all I need to know!

Penelope Cruz is incredable in her native language! I have actually never seen her in an English language film but I have seen trailers and such. She is perfectly suited for this role. In the story, her mother comes back from the dead after many years in order to help her daughters who are having trouble in life…………….volver means to return. Almodovar not only makes you believe that a family member can return from the dead in order to assist you but he proves it. Don’t read a spoiler before seeing this film, it was too much fun at the end when you are finally let in on the secret.

Well the makers of EPIC MOVIE made Scary Movie 1-4. That’s all the explaining I need to do.

              vol-ver
              –noun
              1. a yuppish vehicle used to transport injured soccer kids to the hospital
              2. someone who evolves, forward and backward

Not to spoil the fun, but was just kidding ::).

I’m actually really REALLY looking forward to seeing Volver. I have always like Cruz, even when the media turned against her. Vanilla Sky is amazing. As for Epic Movie- I really wanted to like the Scary Movies. I love horror. I like the people who do those movies. I even watched all 4 of them. BUT. I hated them. I thought they were stupid. I tried. The only redeeming moment was Leslie Nielson as the president in the fourth one- esp the scene with him in the classroom! The only thing more stupid from Scary Movie (other then that scene) was White Chick and Little Man. Those two films are a form of suicide/execution!

She looks beautiful in this role. Then again, I think this of her in general.

I haven’t seen Volver yet… but I did just see Pan’s Labyrinth. This film was far better then I was expecting… and I was expecting a LOT!

If your squemish, you might not be able to take it, but the heart of this film lies a very, very good story.

I went with my aunt and uncle- who are generally more into ‘art’ / ‘independent’ type films (though my uncle is a big fan of Sopranos and Curb Your Enthusiasm). They were expecting an arty/dark fantasy/realism. I think they were a bit shocked by the graphic horror of the film. It’s quite graphic, more graphic/violent then some horror movies out there.

I actually can only think of one scene that was graphic in nature and that was the "Kitchen/clean up"…
In the film, we don’t see the violent act………only the results. I feel the violence was balanced by the fact
that it was done by a child in reciprocation for a violent act committed against her. In most horror films we see violent acts committed against strangers for violence sake only meant to produce shock and fear in the viewer……..in this case, I felt no remorse, at all.
As far as the "clean up", I am just amazed at how many young men just in our area of Georgia commit suicide on a regular basis……..We have at least, one per month……….and I am sure that’s a nation wide average for a town our size……when someone shoots themselves in the head……….What a mess is left behind for the family to clean up……the police don’t do the clean up, the paramedics and coroner who come don’t do the clean up………guess who cleans up………most often the family……..most often the wife or Mother. Many times in a hurry to try and get it done before the children come home from school. That is a situation I have experienced at least 3 times in the past year…………a distraught Wife on her hands and knees with a mop bucket trying to clean up the worse mess that anyone could ever think to have to scoop up and throw into a trash can.

As a side note, women statistically don’t use a gun when attempting suicide. They are much more likely to take an overdose of pills and then get on the phone and call just about everyone they know to talk about it, which is probably why Women tend to survive suicide attempts at a higher rate.

For those who have not seen the film……there is not a suicide involved, the "kitchen/clean up" scene just reminded me of one.

Overall, I was astonished. It’s now one of my favorite films. I want to see it *again*.

I liked this movie, a lot, also. As we don’t get many good foreign films, at all, hereabouts, I had to go and see it immeidately, before it went away without warning.
