I’ve been on an Orson Welles kick recently, over the last couple weeks I’ve seen 3 of his films. Loved every one, Citizen Kane was very pleasing, I’d seen it before, just really thrilled me this time. They included the Making of Citizen Kane show on the DVD…

The Trial with Anthony Perkins, all dark & disturbing…

The Third Man, Orson Welles as Harry Lime. Wicked shots of post war, occupied Vienna. Had the most bizarre music playing thru the film, played on a Zither

      My fav so far :!:

Extras on the Criterean version included a short on the Sewer Police of Vienna… :?

Definitely recommend any of the above…

on the look out for Touch of Evil

…Games games and more games. Orioles on tv last night was sad as can be. Didn’t even get to see them score a run, I’m beginning to think they won’t make the playoffs this year. team usa men’s basketball looked like shooters today, especially Stephen Marbury who i have been way critical of in this tornament, he finally hit some shots and we’re on to the semi’s; finally i was mezmorized once again, but first time since the last world cup, with that game everyone but us calls futbol. The usa girls played tough and survived overtime to earn the gold, much fun. Stillers on tonight versus crossstate rival eagles, ready i be…

…Stillers looked good last night, can’t say that for team usa today. Lost to Argentina in the semi-finals. No gold for team nba. I guess i am taking it so hard because it is just that, a loss for the nba. A loss for drive your way out of trouble, shot 12 for 30 and be a hero hoist it up and dunk without fear of traveling; i love the nba and it lost bad this olympics, teamwork is out and needs to be in internation competition. Oh well, stillers got this rookie Willie Parker, quick as lightning and fast as can be scene on their team. Need to find a roster start for that kid. Big ben had flashes. Polumala looks like a bust. He is the big hitting saftey that can’t hit himself. Ike Taylor looked bad but played so well at times last year. Chris Hope is a serious improvement at free saftey and Duece looks good.
Bronze metal game tomorrow, interesting to see if team usa shows up…

…Bronze metal fun was that indeed; forty-five minute delay due to us wearing the wrong uniform color. These guys can’t wait to get back to their nba teams and their thirty shots a night and travel blind refs. They did finish strong and a metal is a metal but i’m glad the nightmare is over…

…Almost three movies in a row. Started with Friday After Next, the third installment of Ice Cube’s stoner comedy series. Was all that i exspected and a bit of fun to boot, nothing special or anything to rival the originals excellence, second was Mobsters starring Christian Slater as Lucky Luciano. This was a second or third viewing for me but i remembered liking it years ago so i jumped on board as it began, fun time and all if you like organized crime flicks, all the usual suspects represented and cool if nothing else, then i saw that Road to Perdition was starting up and i haven’t yet scene it and the Dreamworks intro sucked me in but then i fell asleep and didn’t get to see more than half an hour, looked promising, Tom Hanks dark as dark can be was cool to see for a minute, Paul Newman is a god, hope to see the rest someday…

I recently saw a documentary called Word Wars…

It followed four obsessive neurotic scrabble players thru their warm up for the world championship of Scrabble in San Diego. It was very cool, these guys are obsessed with words, their whole world revolves around the game. My fav geek was GI Joel…GI as in gastrointestional, he had some issues with reflux disease…

Definitely recommend it, the show was introduced by the president of the local scrabble association

I love obsessive neurotic geeks…

Next up is a documentary on negativity called… I Curmudgeon

                  I love scrabble.

I just watched Seabiscuit, and believe it or not, after gettting through the first hour or so, was swept up in its magic. Yes i am a sucker for cheesy feel good movies and this didn’t dissapoint that much. Is what it is, dig horse racing three times a year, somtimes, so this was alright, even went to a track as a kid and lost 4 dollars real quick like but it was cool to have the memories. Movies are fun and for being so big dreamworks seems to put out quite a bit of quality.

…a double trouble probably not worth posting twin bill. First was Scenes of the Crime, which starred that guy that was the dude in the the big leboski, unfortuatly he wasn’t bowling much and it wasn’t that good of a movie even with the cool or sort of cool out of left field twist at the end. Second was Stealing Harvard. Jason Lee is funny, but there is something about Tom Green, just not a fan. Road trip was good, but this was too much. The female lead did a good job playing opposite Jason Lee. She came on strong at the end to redeam much of the wasted time i spent watching these films. Still i love films, good bad and boring…

…the 25th Hour. SO much fun. A Spike Lee joint with a backdrop of post 9-11 NYC. Never thought a backdrop would be so right on or important to the film the way this one plays out. So much is there. Ed Norton is a fine actor and all is good when you take the time to see this film…

…the House of Sand and Fog. Had the girl form Labrynith, Jennifer Connelly, but however no David Bowie. THis was about a house, and how avoiding ugly looking mail can get you into trouble. Fell asleep after the climax, or so i thought, just kept going downhill fast. Not a happy day film, but maybe alright if you like sad stories…

…Shooting Fish. British i believe, rather know but whose to label. All was well, like con-artist movies in general and this isn’t better or worse than the rest of the good in that genre, fun in the evening that was last…

                            The last weeks I’ve seen:

Hellboy: ok movie. Ron Perlman does a great job as hellboy. but background info about the other caracters, especially the meanies, aren’t good enough. Perhaps it’ll be better in a extended dvd version, if that’s ever released.

The Punisher: needless to say it’s better than the horrible dolph lundgren version from the late 80’s, but just barely. Which is disappointing, punisher is a sort of belivable superhero, since he doesn’t have any superpowers, but the movie can’t seem to decide if it’s gonna be funny, pessimistic or just head on action. Which makes it into a sort of schizophrenic watching experience.

watched Coffee and Cigarettes on a long drive recently, wickedly cool show. Best bits for me were, Iggy & Tom Waits, The Tesla Coil with Meg & Jack White, and of course, Bill Murrays
                              caffeine delirium…

Great extras on the DVD as well…

portable dvd player comes in handy on a long drive,
also can be hooked up to the tv in hotel rooms…
