Is this "girlfriend" candidate into music much? If not, this could be your last show you go to for a while ;D

But seriously, did you check out the toads website? I’m pretty sure tickets are far from selling out.

A friend who lives in New Haven just told me that someone from Toad’s told him that only 150 tickets have been sold so far, which means that there’s a good chance Toad’s will flood downtown New Haven with free tickets day-of to get people in there to buy drinks. Toad’s does that all the time. So if you’re broke and hard-up for tickets, there might be hope for you yet.

i think slayer sold out toad’s last time they played – we were pressed in there like sardines…the kids tore down that stupid fence thing and stopped the show for like 20 minutes too :D

Slayer has always sold out Toad’s, from the "Reign in Blood" tour through the present. Suburban CT loves its metal. Did they have the tennis net-style thing, or the chain link fence? Last time I saw Culture there they had this horrible chain link fence set up that extended about a quarter of the way across the front of the stage, which meant that the backup singers had to perform with a fence in their faces, which they clearly didn’t enjoy. Being rastas, I could imagine that they’ve probably had to spend some time in detention at one time or another in JA, and having to sing through a fence surely didn’t evoke the greatest associations for them. If they have that set up like that again, J will likely have a fence directly at his right elbow. Who could ever think that’s a good idea?

God, that’s shitty. Years ago they would sometimes string a big tennis net kind of thing from one corner of the sound platform to the right-hand corner of the stage, keeping all the 21+ people who wanted to drink corralled behind it. It’s really stupid — what percentage of a Dino crowd do you think is under-21? 10-15%? Why give those who aren’t paying their way in drinks better access to the stage? Sometimes, though, they’d just string the net so that the bar area by the front doors is where the under-21s would have to stand, giving the rest of the club to us drinkers. That’s the way I’m hoping it’ll be next week……..

Kudos to the Slayer fans for tearing that fucking thing down.

At least it’s better than shows in Philly, though, where under-21s and drinks can’t even be in the same room. It’s frustrating when you’re confined to the balcony at the Troc if you want a beer, and looking around the entire place you can’t spot a single person who looks under 21. That’s got to be bad for money-making, too, since whatever they would lose in ticket sales by turning away the 5% of the crowd that’s too young to drink would be made up for 10-times-over in beer sales if they opened the whole club to drinkers.

I can’t win: when I was a kid, listening to the Huskers, Black Flag, GBH, etc. and desperately wanting to see them, all-ages shows were the rare exception. As soon as I turned 21, *every* show became all-ages, and I found myself having to stand behind a fence to watch a show with a beer in my hand.

tell me about it. i remember when i was a teenager like every show i wanted to go to was 21+ Ramones, White Zombie, Violent Femmes you name it all 21+…i still like toads more than the webster though – terrible acoustics – no matter who’s playing it all sounds horrible. i think that’s why bands don’t come here anymore there’s no where good to play >:(
