Haven’t watched a lot of hockey on american tv, just loved when they added that blue shadow to the puck I think you need to break out of the denial Carl., admit it you’re a closet BEARS fan

Hey I like hockey too, but the Pens are going to be terrible.

You figured me out, Allison.. That drafting of Cade McNown worked well.. Ever since the Rams left town, I have not followed a footbal team. The chargers are the closest team to me now. Ugh. Maybe I root for the Texans..

That blue shadow was an abomination. I liked it when it was glowing on a spectators head in the first row..

Carl.

p.s. RBB.. I have a question for you in your PM

August 22 is a big celebration day for BEARS fans, a year to the date that menace cade left town…

I blame cade for everything, actually Blame Cade is my custom glow title at a BEARS message board I frequent. We’re heading to market with a cade pinata, something fun to smash up…

This is probably only of interest to Rosa, but I saw a tv ad for Discover credit cards that featured a guy wearing an ameoba music t-shirt! fucking incredible. this is a national ad, I assume. I think the recent opening of Amoeba LA just might have influenced some scumbag advertising executives…the same bastards who use Smog songs in beer commercials. However, they could very well be out of SF.

BUMP…

Since Tower Records is going to file Ch. 11 Bankruptcy protection..

Tower to File Ch. 11

Let us at least make an attempt to save the smaller stores (not that tower was small) from the same fate..

(just a friendly reminder, nothing else to see here)

Best record store in this country:

Sounds Venlo (website is currently showing their 2003 end-of-year lists)

Excellent collection, logically sorted, excellent staff, massive vinyl department, lots of secondhand stuff, fine instore gigs (next week Death Cab for Cutie 8) ), ten minutes from work, what more could you wish for? :D :D

Thanks for the link buckmeister! Was an interesting, yet depressing read.

One thing I fail to understand is why someone would pay for mp3’s on Itunes. This is not because of the vast ammount of the free mp3’s that you can get from various p2p programs, but these facts(or a roberts view)
You only get a mp3.
Mp3’s suck.

There is no way in hell someone can convince me that the sound is just as good as on a vinyl, or even a cd. So the only place they can play it, is on their Ipod thingy.
They don’t get any artwork, since there is no cover.
They don’t get the joy of finding what you’re looking for when browsing through the shelves on a recordstore.
You only get a mp3.
Mp3’s suck.

But if they are so depraved and sick that they feel the need for mp3’s why the hell don’t they just rip them from a cd?
Yes, I know -it’s convenient, because if you like only a couple of songs from an album you can buy those mp3’s, not the whole album. BUT, haven’t you been paying attention? This is the third time I’m saying it: mp3’s suck! You can only listen to it on your stupid Ipod.
Mp3’s suck.

You’re missing out on the joy of waking in the morning, putting on an album and blasting yourself, and those lucky enough to hear you, into a nice day.
You can’t jump around naked, screaming the lyrics to I Wanna Be Your Dog, causing your girlfriend/boyfriend to burst into laughter and join you. Oh, yes, you might try dancing around naked with your stupid Ipod. But I’ll tell you this, there ain’t a person in the world who’s gonna like the sight of someone jumping around, naked, to a song they can’t hear. Your girlfriend/boyfriend will think you’ve gone completely nutters and you’ll probably have to enter celibacy for atleast a week.
Mp3’s suck.

You’re missing out on the opportunity to get your friends over, guiding them over to the couch, handing out beers and play them that great new record you bought. Because all you have is that fucking stupid Ipod with it’s crummy mp3’s. Admit it, there ain’t a soul that’s coming over just to listen to a song you’ve downloaded onto your pice of shit Ipod.
Mp3’s suck.

As for romantic dinners with your girlfriend/boyfriend, I’m not saying a thing. Just a simple question. How romantic is it to eat dinner with those stupid earplugs in your ear? Wouldn’t it be better to have Buena Vista Social Club on the stereo? Thought so.
Mp3’s suck.

On the other hand, if for example freakscene had a webshop that offered tracks as wav/shn’s/flac, with downloadable artwork, that would’ve been great. I would love the opportunity to download the bonus track on the japansese free so free in a lossless format. Not to mention other b-sides etc. And I would be more than happy to pay 1$ for the song.
I actually think it’s the best idea I’ve had all day, and though I know that the chances are slim for such a webshop ever existing here, the thought of such a shop fills me with a tingling sensation.

But, mp3’s suck!

whoa … that really is such a depressing article … record shops can’t die !! … part of the reason i love going home (to the US) is to hit all the great record shops there … man, i am sooo bummed right now :(
