As for that favorite bands list, it disturbs me that anyone would have to ask if that was about sarcasm. When we were in Japan, J mentioned to someone at our label there that he refered to that shit as "date rape rock." The label dude said, "Here we refer to it as ‘sports metal.’"
Here’s a question for all the ladies out there. How is it possible the Fred Durst manages to get laid? I would think that everything about that guy would turn girls and gay men off! But I suppose that if you’re on this BBS, then you wouldn’t see the attraction either.</STRONG><HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

1) You trashed Fred Durst with extreme predjudice during which time you bring out many a fine point.

2) You make a funny about "George Berz and the Fog."

3) The phrase: "date rape rock"

…These are the reasons you are now my favorite member of the Fog.

Re Fred getting some…

I guess the fame and money’s gotta help. But if you’re in need George, just shave yo head and wear a red cap backwards. And whine in a horribly shrill voice. And get some better beats and get some better rhymes.

Hey,

Always surprises me to see any woman checking out limp crap…just don’t get it at all!! Gotta love that date rape rock tag, although the sport metal tag is confusing…its all crap in my opinion.

As to how that backward red cap wearing guy is in anyway popular with the females…huge mystery. Has to involve huge amounts of illicit substances to numb the senses of the females involved…has to be that way or something is dreadfully wrong

While I agree Same Day and I’m Not Fine would make amazing singles…heres hoping…I will pretty much take any single J puts out. Love Waistin, definitely looking forward to getting that disc…back ordered…ahhhh. See It As Always is worth the price of the whole disc…not to mention Leaving On A Jet Plane…wow!!!

Allison…not a limp crap fan

Yeah, I don’t think wastin’ is very good for a single release. It’a a great song, but it’s not inthe vien of stuff J has released before so it’ll take college radio aback. I think of waistin’ as more of an eccentric B-side to a song like same day, I’m not fine, or even amma ring. But then at the same time, we should’nt expect J, or ultimatum music (his U.S. lable) to be predictable and radio friendly.

I disagree [in principle]. While the songs you listed would go over better now then when released, I disagree that radio is open minded moreso now then, say, 1992. Look at the billboard hot 200 singles chart… last time I looked at it, I had to go down to #26 before I could even find a song I knew.

I don’t think Wasistin is the best choice for a single either. I like the song, but for some reason, I think it sounds much better live, than it does on the cd. From the first time I heard Sameday, I thought that was one of J’s greatest songs ever, and a great single. Oddly enough, I think J would have more commercial success if he were to re-release Freakscene or Just Like Heaven. I think that those songs were released at a time when radio wasn’t ready for them. Radio is more open minded than it was in the late 80’s, and catchy 3 minute songs are (unfortunately) more radio friendly than most of the songs J makes now.

I live near Detroit, and the radio stations here are more open minded than they were in the earlier days of Dinosaur jr. I probably shouldv’e been more specific. You’ll here Radiohead and the Cure on 4 or 5 major stations in Detroit. When Radiohead comes on, it’s usually Creep, Kharma Police, or Let Down; a cathcy 3-4 minute song. Only once in a while do you hear a song like Paranoid Andoid, which clocks in around 6 and a half minutes. Neil Young songs that get played on the radio here are Cinnamon Girl, Ohio, or Southern Man. Unfortunately, I don’t ever hear songs like Cowgirl in the Sand or Like a Hurricane being played. Maybe I’m just babbling. I just wanted to maybe explain myself a little better. Thanks

Totally agree w/george on I’m not fine being the best single choice, cuz it just shred me to pieces the first time I heard it. Should ezily get some new people into J. Sameday would also work as a single, of course, can’t get enough of that one.
And oh, it sure is fucked that a lot of people think of Neil Young as a lame country artist. I mean, although the guy is, what, 55?, he plays the crap outta all younger guitar players of today (which doesn’t say a lot I guess .. *sighs*) except for, well, we all know who I’m talking about

cheers, max

Totally off topic but one of the things that bugs the shit out of me is people having a misconception of what Neil Young does everybody thinks he’s a lame Canadian country singer. Everbody should be forced to listen to Crazy Horse and his solo stuff before they can make an opinion.

Anywayz,
On first listen to more light my favorite song was Whered You Go because of the chorus which is just so anthemic and catchy. My least favorite songs were waistin’ and i’m not fine. I agree that same day should be the next single or maybe back before you go because it’s lots of fun

Bob
my respect for George Berz went up tenfold when I heard that his name was pronounced Beers.

Anyone that thinks Neil Young is a country artist has been living under a damn rock the last 30+ years. I’ve always liked the way he was willing to try new things and take risks, especially when he didn’t have to. He could easily do the ACDC thing, and play the same song over and over and over, but he constantly tries new things. I repsect someone that does what the hell they want to do (so I guess I’m a big hipocrite, because I’m sure ACDC is content playing the same song the last 25 years). I prefer the Crazy Horse stuff, but respect the fact that he is willing to try new things.
