how is the new beastie record ? is it worth buying ?

Well, don’t know how much a Beastie Boys fan you are, but to put it shortly this is definitely NOT their best album…..I just feel something is missing, probably some of the "craziness" of the previous albums. There a lot of good songs on this one, but the overall feeling is that it’s less diversified, it’s 100% hip-hop, no more punk/jazzy/funky songs inbetween.
After several hearing I’d say it’s a good album compared to other hip-hop stuff out there, but to Beastie Boys standard it’s a bit disappointing even more after waiting 6 years for this release.

Cool, that’s a great live album, and the booklet is just hilarious, you wonder how they managed to actually play some of their gigs :P
By the way did you find it in a shop or via Internet? A friend of mine bought some years ago in France, but I have never seen it in a shop here and I’d really like to get it…..

                    Calimero:
Yes, thats a funny album. I was kind of shocked at first when i listened to the disc 2, the first song is so loudcrazywhatever.. I think its fun to think that the guys only had somekind of machine with them on their first tours and they only sang on it.. And only in Holland, i wonder why they toured only Holland..
Actually i found it used in a store, only 10€ for a double cd is quite cheap i think. Did you look ebay for the CD, they usually almost everything..
Ween must be fun live, it would be cool to see em. By the way, does Ween still play or is it disbanded?

From an interview with Kim Gordon & Steve Shelley from playlouder.com 8)

“We can’t even put a record with Mariah Carey’s name in the title for fear of getting sued. I can’t believe they won’t let us do that.

‘Kim Gordon and the Arthur Doyle Handcream’ was originally meant to be called ‘Mariah Carey and the Arthur Doyle Handcream’ but for legal reasons it had to be changed (their lawyer advised she could sue on the grounds that they were using her name in an attempt to sell records). Gordon, it seems, has always been fascinated by the mainstream. Where she may have held back initially in our interview, get her on the subject of Mariah Carey and watch her go…

"Well it’s kind of about her and this guy Arthur Doyle. I was just kind of thinking about them at the same time. Arthur Doyle comes out the free jazz world. He’s a really kind of soulful, bizarre singer who I love. And Mariah would be in my top ten favourite divas.

“And then for Christmas I got a bottle of Nivea handcrap. So we made this song ‘Mariah Carey and the Arthur Doyle Hand Cream. And Mariah was kind of having a breakdown at the time. I wasn’t really paying that much attention to it but I was sort of getting fascinated, and maybe we all get a bit sucked in with the media thing. The lives of strangers. And, uh, I saw her on this awards show doing a cover of ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’ and it was really good!

“It just kind of stuck with me; she has this amazing way of bouncing, and she had these high heels. She just seemed kind of vulnerable and had this sort of Marilyn Monroe quality, you know in the sense that, female singers are… she pauses, in an attempt to explain herself, “it’s almost like they’re genetically bred now to use their body to sell their songs, without anyone saying ‘wear less clothes’.

“It’s like they want to because they’re so competitive. It’s an obvious thing, you know, ‘sex sells’. And um, whether it’s called being a coward, or sexuality, or whatever, it works. She had this breakdown, and she can never say no to anything…

We express our surprise at her interest in Mariah Carey.

“Things like that just creep into your life,â€? she admits, “they get in your head, you know – I don’t read about it. Actually I do read about it. You can’t get away from it!"

good question indeed, I didn’t stumble over the fact before, that the song toitle has been changed. thanks for the interview find, dB. funny, I never realized that there’s so much to think about Mariah Carey :P
