July 19, 2006 at 6:49 am #119260Quote:RECORD BREAKING TEMPERATURES IN LONDON ?London’s preparing for the hottest July day on record.
Forecasters say temperatures here will reach 36 degrees celsius, which is a record set in Epsom in 1911.
The all-time record was set three years ago at 38-point-5 celsius or 101 fahrenheit.
Roads are being gritted to stop them melting, speed restrictions will be in place on the railways later and schools are closing early with others cancelling sports days.

July 19, 2006 at 10:24 am #119262It is hot and sludgy in the smoggy dirty south.. All of my plants are keeling over and I can SEE the heat. Anybody catch that Global Warming special on Discovery last weekend???
July 19, 2006 at 12:09 pm #119263It is very hot here too, 2nd heatwave this summer and 36 degrees on the boards. I was an idiot this afternoon to cycle 75 km in this heat…….I was fried!
The evenings and nights are great dough, cold rosé or ice-cold beer, sitting outside as where it one of my favorite greek islands.
July 19, 2006 at 1:13 pm #119264Really hot here too
just organizing my cd`s,my shelf only holds from A to MudhoneyJuly 19, 2006 at 1:57 pm #119265Grrr… I just caught some kind of flu (been feeling lousy all day) and tomorrow it’s supposed to be the year’s hottest day with 37 degrees Celsius… as if it’s not warm enough today. Luckily though, I got AC at work and our flat is in a stone house that never gets too hot inside

My basil which usually loves the heat is just like dried herb on a rusty twig. It’s so hot, even the weeds in the cracks of the patio cement are dying with out my help. Making lots of sun tea and then drinking it on ice before the day is through.
July 19, 2006 at 3:56 pm #119268Yeah its been warm here in the greater Seattle area too. Typically we’ll only see a few days in the upper 80’s and lower 90’s. This year it seems to be a little more frequent than the past.
I really wonder if it has to do with global warming though. I’ve done research on this in some of my college courses, tempratures don’t rise many degrees from one year to the next. Typically its more subtle. We’ve only seen a 1 degree increase in the past 100 years on average. If it starts warming up on a faster clip than that I’ll start to worry. I do know one thing that historically speaking after there is an warming period the Earth goes into a cooling period or ice age. The next few decades may be interesting, but still that would be an enormously quick climate change. The climate has never changed that fast in the Earth’s history. We’ll see………
July 19, 2006 at 5:48 pm #119269I can hear the timer ringing
I can hear the whistle blow
I can hear the customers, they’re saying
"Yes, it’s time to go home"Everything has been delivered
Everyone has called it a day
There’s the doorman checking in his pocket
for his weekly payAnd from this window, I can see the street below
I can hear the hit parade on the radio
There’s dirty dishes piling up in the sink
But it’s too hot to move, and it’s too hot to thinkOutside the dog is growling
In a dark and hollow tone
He’ll be going out tonight, there’s nothing here
to make him stay at homeI can hear the baby crying
Listen… Mama’s crying too
No-one gets much sleeping done
till they’ve been crying through and through…the Triffids – Too hot to move, too hot to think….
