      i keep hearing conflicting accounts of him having the "edge." i remember reading some interview of him and the interviewer mentioned him being stoned, while i’ve also read plenty about him being sxe since listening to minor threat. whatever, i could care less either way, but it would just be interesting to know if anyone had any concrete proof of either one.

        Hey, I am sitting here with my Oracle, and we have no idea what sxe is. My husband is getting ready to get stoned. Perhaps after he gets stoned, it will dawn on him. SXE hmmmm, must be some new lingo?

        and Whats the edge? Isn’t that one of the guys from U2? We were thinking pehaps Sxe is slang for sexy, my husband doesn’t think J is very sexy but I think he is kind of sexy!

        Okay, I am just trying to be funny. Still the question remains.
        What is SXE????

                Oh, so funny. I just have to say, I think ALL Sagitarrius’ are SXE,
                even the ones that smoke pot. (ie, Bonnie, Brian, John, Lisa, Rick, David, Daniel) They can be so upright (uptight?) and honest, to a fault. Anyone out there Know a December or late November baby and agree? Anna the child who lives with me, if she gets an invitation to a birthday party from someone that she doesn’t like (75 percent of Athens, I would say) then she will say something like " Gosh, I wouldn’t enjoy coming to your house so I am sorry I have to say no" Most recently, I returned some videos to the store 2 days late and the fellow that works there is from South America (like Juan) and charged us NO late fee. Anna, my favorite Sagitarrius screamed out loud " Thats not fair to everyone else. " When she grows up she wants to become a lawyer and help everyone on death row" Like me she spends time eveyday in prayer and trusts in God so much that her favorite saying is "Everybody lets me down" sounds J to me. I told her by the way when someone asks you to come over just say "Thanks for asking, I am not sure I can make it" but I am a Gemini (opposite to Sag.) and she tells me "Why would you lead someone on? They should know right away that they rub you the wrong way" I let her know many people have rubbed me the wrong way only to become a good friend a few years down the road.

                  in the BBC6 radio interview on Sept 22nd, 2002, J talked about his early youth, drugs and the straight edge movement.

                  in a rough transcription, J said about the following:

                  …that he grew up in a college town (Amherst/MA) which was also a big hippy town …everybody seemed to take drugs, and in the age of 15, it seemed like a rebellion, not to use drugs… he couldn’t relate to the drug consume, also not to all the punk rockers who seemed to be junkies, though he liked the music …
                  then he listened to the band Minor Thread, who kinda founded the straight edge (no drugs etc) movement, and the concept of straight edge was speaking more to him….

                  In that interview he explicitely said, he didn’t take drugs & liked the straight edge movement. I never read about J & taking drugs or smoking pot, rarely ever about him drinking alcohol, so all the stoner talk about him and his music didn’t appy in my opinion….

                  the interview is still up on the BBC6 site, listen yourself :D

                  I know there is another interview somewhere, where the interviewer alleges that J is stoned, only because the replies came slowly. but that seemed to be pure speculation to me.

                    J has drank before, I have bought him whisky. He says he likes whiskey and beer gives him a headache. I have seen him fall off of the stage he was so drunk. But I literaly passed him a joint once and he didn’t want to smoke it and I gave him a joint once and he put it in his pocket and gave it to Mike Johnson I think. They say George was the big stoner, and liked a little cocaine every now and again.

                        I think this discussion should stop. It can get out of hand.. :idea:

                          I never found any evidence for that …

                            Baked is anytime I’ve drifted out of sight
                            I’m able and I’m stoned
                            When I finally plan my tri i i i p
                            I’ve been baking through the night

                            But again I was hanging with murph and mike watt and everyone was smoking except J. Maybe he didn’t want to smoke with strangers, I don’t know. I bet he has done a little of different things but doesn’t over indulge anymore.

                              I remember Watt bringing up the George smoke thing in the Fog tour diaries, gotta love the story about the fire alarms going off in london :aliensmile:

                              Don’t remember a mention of J indulging in any way thru the tour. I do remember an interview where a guy asked J about the stoner label, J said people always think he smokes cause he talks so slow…I’ll try to post a link later.

                              I think there was some speculation around some lyrics off More Light being about giving up something… :wink:

                              But then, this is all really speculation, none of us know for sure, thats how they probably want it :mrgreen:

                              I remember seeing a short bio deal on motley crue ( :oops: :!: ). they talked more about drugs than anything related to their music, it really seemed like it was all about drugs not music….kinda the opposite of what Dinosaur Jr/J Mascis & The Fog are all about :aliensmile:

                                I Found a few "drug"-related quotes from J:

                                Mean Street magazine-Interview, December 2002;
                                About NY: "Yeah, I’ve got friends. But they’re all so busy, because they have to work to pay rent to live in New York. And I don’t like to go to bars. I guess that’s the main thing people do in New York. So that’s part of the problem. You can’t hang out at people’s homes, because their apartments are too small. So everybody hangs out in bars, and I’m not into that anymore."

                                Tribune-Review, October 2002;
                                "The biggest one early on was just that I was a couch potato and watched TV all the time," Mascis says when asked about what’s the biggest misperception about him. "People always thought I was on drugs."

                                Cucamonga-Interview, October 2002;
                                I don’t know if I’m interested in playing drums live. It seems too hard and I’ve seen the toll it’s taken like drummers usually go crazy and become drugs addicts and die. It’s kind of like boxing. Drumming just rattles your brain too much. I don’t think it’s good for your health. So, for my own preservation I’m glad I’m not playing drums.

                                  I have a brilliant idea for those who are interested in knowing the truth. They can take a drugtest with them on the next concert.
