I was just comparing the live version from guitar center with a live funkadelic version and I liked J’s better but I did see or hear rather funkadelic live once and I could feel the song comeing before the first note and then when whover it was, maybe buckethead hit that first note it blew my mind.

the Mike Watt/J. Mascis version is on Mike Watt’s album ‘Ball-hog or tugboat?’

the Funkadelic version is on the album of the same name and a couple of compilations. Eddie Hazel is playing the solo, George Clinton told Hazel to play "like your momma had just died"

                    from Mike Watt’s hootpage:

                    Quote:
I’m gonna dig this. now j has produced a fIREHOSE record for me (the last one, "mr. machinery operator") in 1992, reocrded on my wrestling record (did an incredible one take version of funkadelic’s "maggot brain") five years ago

yes there is.. and it’s great. it captures the essence in J’s guitar sound.
