Master Volumes are killing guitar sounds. I’m happy you made the 100 Watt handwired reissue. I’m glad I can buy a new amp now that sounds right.

I like what Hanneman says:

"I use Marshall because it’s the most intense amp ever. I would not play anything else. If I had to play anything else I’d set it on fire and destroy it."

I’m not much of a techy with guitar gear.

What exactly does this mean?

Is this a tube amp?

i hear you im not to picky either but you do have to know some stuff like tube amps are better than solid state.and the watts of a head to a cab.but as far as sound im into alot of grunge so i like a thick dirty/muddy sound.i use a ds-1 i have a ibanez cab {which when i went to find a cab }i played the little marshall and the cab i have now the ibanez sounded better.i have a marshall head 100 wattsand i have a ibanez axe series guitar.

I still stand firmly by my Solid State amps. You guys can keep your tubes, hehe. I’ll play a Fender M-80 over any Marshall any day. I have a Marshall Mosfet too though, its a solid state amp as well but it sounds just like the 800. I think I may eventually get rid of it just so I can get an M-80 head. You should know watts of heads and cabs, you should also know impedances. Also, you should know that a 50watt amp is NOT half as loud as a 100W amp. There is only like 2db difference, not 50.

I can’t ever get a tone I’m 100% happy with on a Marshall. With my Fenders that I’ve had, I could pretty much get any tone I wanted with two pedals, and a strat. Solid State is my prefference, lucky for me that I dont have to spend a lot of money on tubes every so often anymore. I have had tube amps before/played other peoples. Mesa’s, Fenders, Marshalls, name it….I like the solid state better…it gets me the tone i want. So, basically what this rant is about (as if you already didn’t know..) is that just because most people out there say "tube amps are better" doesnt mean they are better for everyone. If I HAD to play a tube amp, I would play a Twin Reverb.

I’ll take my Tech 21 solid state, thanks. I’ve had a lot of amps, both tube and ss, and the Tech 21 blows them all away.

How often do you have to replace tubes and how do you know they’ve gone bad.

Also – any ideas where to buy the new Marshal Amp? I don’t see it on Musicians Friend.

Hey.

How often do you have to replace tubes and how do you know they are bad?
That depends. How often do you play your amp? How often is it cranked? Playing the amp louder will shorten the life of the tubes. I was going through a set of tubes for my Fender Princeton Reverb about every 8 months. It sucked. I think my cousin goes through tubes about every year and a half in his Mesa. How do you tell if the tubes are bad? Are they glowing blue? (Unless they usually glow blue, then: Are they glowing a different color than normal?). You can take a pen and tap the tube, and if it rings for a second or two, suppospedly its bad. Your amp doesnt have that Umph that it had when it was new etc. There are also tube testers out there (I own one…they are great) and if you are going to get a tube amp, I suggest getting a tube tester. I took mine everywhere my Princeton went.

I just dont like how unreliable they are. I dont like having to worry about having the sound I had "that one time" or if its even going to work. I love SS amps. Same tone every time, and you can get the classic tube sound with SS reliability.

As for the new Marshall, you could go on thier site I’m sure they have a dealer finder. Keep looking around the net, do a search for the name of the amp and you’ll find a bunch of places selling them……and then Ebay.

I don’t know much about amps, but I bought this the other day (even though that’s somewhat of an oxymoron regarding the purchase of this amp), anyway it’s awesome and I’m quite happy with it.
