Hey I was thinking it would be way cool if Fender issued a run of J Mascis Signiture Series Jazzmasters. Wouldn’t that be fucking cool! They could come with little stickers for the head stock and pick guard. Anyway I thought it would be cool and just wondered if anyone agreed. :)

Of course it would be cool… but you will never see it… not enough $$$ in it for Fender.

jazzmasters are already stupidly priced as is

still would love to see the model, they’d have to put in a mustang bridge!

So….I know J. ended up getting the Jazzy because the strat cost too much, but he has had a couple strats now. Has anyone heard or asked him if he likes the strat more/plays it more? Also, how is he liking his Mosrite/copy? Does he play these guitars live, or keeps them with all his Gibsons?

Latest issue of Guitarist (U.K MAG)

One page article about Witch. Check out this quote from J

"I just got pictures of a prototype model Jazzmaster that Fender is gonna make for me. It has a tune-o-matic bridge, a gold pickguard like the ’59 ones, and a purple sparkle finish and matching headstock. I’m not sure if it will be a production model yet."

There’s also a full page interview with J in a Marshall amps promo suppliment with Guitarist that’s mildly interesting.

Holy shit thats fucking awesome! I hope it goes to production, I’d love to own one of those.

Is there anyway to view the article on line?

I’m not sure. Don’t think so. I guess I could type them out for you but but it’s kind of drag. I type slowly. Is that mean? It’s the current issue and Y’know it’s copyrighted material for sure, yadda yadda.
What this site’s position with something like that? Moderator?

                    But yeah, interesting.
Dino fans and Freakscensters, start lobbying / annoying Fender now!

Does anyone have a contact for Fender? I can’t find an email address on their website. If anyone knows how we can BUG Fender about this that would be great.

I’m not sure how to contact Fender but I can’t see it happening somehow. But maybe that’s overly pessimistic.
On the other hand, I mean how famous was Danny Gatton (god reast his soul). Really very much more famous than J outside the circle of muso/ guitar nuts? I dunno.
The next poster is gonna write "Danny who?" aren’t they?

I would have to believe that J has a bigger name than Danny Gatton. J is a bonafide guitar great, hailed as the one responsible for introducing guitar solo’s and lead guitar work into indie/college rock. Danny Gatton is just some guy who played hillbilly jazz. Don’t get me wrong Danny Gatton is good, but I think J’s influence is a bit more profound.

Well, sure. I guess I’m inclined to agree. I think your right. Primarily "You’re living all Over"/ "Dinosaur" (along with "Sister" by SY AND "Ecstacy" by MBV) is the reason I picked up a guitar. Obviously, I would love to see this realised.

I wish I could say the same. I heard Money for Nothin by Dire Straits and wanted to pick up the guitar. Don’t bag on me too hard though I was only 11 or 12 (5th or 6th grade). :) It was a few more years until I was trying to play Dinosaur stuff.

Dire Straits Huh? Bless You, I’m saying nothing.
Ah, Crunchy Les Pauls and primitive blocky computer animation. I Understand.

Looks like Fender don’t wanna be emailed by just any scum off the street
as you might imagine but for what it’s worth…..

Danny Gatton was one hell of a guitar player. I too think J has reached and inspired a bigger audience as well.

A J Series Jazzmater would be so cool.

I remember seeing J play his Rory Strat on the reunion tour. It was so weird to see him play with a guitar other then a Jazzmaster. Then he played a Gibson couple nights later at the Covington show.

I’d been seeing J play live for 15 years or so, and all he had used was his Jazzmasters. Then he played a Strat and Les Paul in a 3 day span.
