If I thought it were feesable, I would just start saving now, but uh…..if they are only making 30 a month, even by December thats only 210 guitars. The price will be insane. Like, if it were only going to be around $1,100-$1,500 you know, by tax time next year (lol) I may have enough for it)……oh *bob saget* I’ve GOT to get a better paying job!!! Even by Dec. if I saved $100 per month, that’s just $700. Good Lord, I suck.

i’m going to guess that the mascis JM will retail for 1500-2000, assuming it’s made in the usa.

one one hand, they can’t charge too much for it because dinosaur fans that are guitar players that would be crazy enough to buy a purple guitar are not huge in number. incidentally this, i believe, would be the reason to limit the models to 30 a month and charge what the market will bear. unlike many of the artist models they make, there’s nothing outstanding about the customization of this jazzmaster- the finish is perhaps the strangest thing about it. it’s not like THAT much more labor needs to be invested than does for any other US jazzmaster.

on the other hand, it’s a jazzmaster, and they will most likely charge a premium because its a special model. and then theres whatever they pay mascis for the licensing.

theres always the possibility that it could be considered a ‘master built’ model (based on the one guy making them comment). that would be kind of a foolish move for them, as a 2500-4000+ selling price would definitely ensure they can’t sell any of these.

        IF it actually gets made.

So will Warmoth….and a LOT cheaper!
Sure it wont be a Fender, but….I have one Fender and five Squier’s..so I don’t really care about the name anyways.

The special thing is the finish, i’d rather buy a vintage one for the same ammount of money. But the colour is bloody sexy.

I’ve also heard the ugly rumor about the JM signature JM being a Fender Japan production…nothing substantiated at this point, but if it ever really does come together I am SO in.

I don’t think Jay would go for the idea if it was a Japan model.

Hey – where did you get that picture?

Sounds like Fender is still in denile about the whole thing. Here is the latest response I got from them

                        Hello,
Thanks for writing in. We do not have any official information on that
guitar yet. We have sent him some prototypes, but nothing is official
yet. Keep an eye on http://www.fender.com for all of the latest news and
updates. We appreciate your interest, and thanks again for writing in.

                        Best Regards,

You’re telling me, you’d think they would have more concrete plans at this point. I mean J said he already has 20 of them, thats a lot of prototypes. I wish they would just fess up and spill the beans.

In my experience the fact Fender won’t say anything is pretty typical. They want guys like me. I wanted to get a new Jazzmaster and would have happily waited if I knew the Jay version was coming.

Fender said something like they’ve talked about it, but no current plans, so I went and bought a brand new Jazzy.

Five months later it looks to be more likely and now I’m more likely to buy another Fender…Arrrggghh.
