why is there such an outcry to keep cbgb open? i don’t get it.
can someone give me one good reason? because blondie & television played there? big deal….they played other nyc clubs just as much but no one fought to keep those places open.
cbgb is currently a place that doesn’t give a shit about music. hasn’t for a long time. they haven’t booked a good show in 15yrs..they book 10 metal bands from NJ per night and do not care in the least about putting together cutting edge punk shows like they did way back when. their drinks are ridiculously overpriced and the place exists solely as a venue to sell the cbgb merch (t-shirts, jackets, panties etc…). yes, the same cbgb merch that is sold in bloomingdales and macy’s etc… and you all feel bad for this guy (hilly k.)??
yes, the same cbgb that will be opening a las vegas club for the same non-musical, monetary reasons. do you think any money will be made in a situation like that? yes, he will will make tons of money from that alone.
i grew up in nyc and fully realize the significance of what cbgb WAS but that is not what it is now so stop wasting your time trying to save it. there are SO many other causes to support.September 2, 2005 at 1:36 am #111934i live in alaska pal… i just love the ramones.. it is cool the history of the place, who cares if bush plays there, and some kiss cover band… shit i’ll probably never go to new york anyways .. id probably hit london frst..

You may have something that may cause a fever that only more cowbell can help around the 11th. You may want to consider staying ‘home’ that day
September 7, 2005 at 4:42 pm #111939I can’t go either… I’m depressed
September 8, 2005 at 10:03 am #111940i really cant and it sucks.. someone should videotape..

September 12, 2005 at 5:35 am #111942Really, really excellent show last night. After a bit of futzing around with his amp and the accompanying buzzes and squalls, J began picking the lick to "Someone Said" and played a teaser version of it before seguing directly into "Repulsion" (I think — my memory is a little fuzzy). The high point was when Susan Thorpe (?) joined him on flute and played a really beautiful version of "Thumb" followed by a looooong, absolutely intense version of "Alone." It was incredible, and loud as hell for a solo gig.
Approximate setlist (not in order):
Someone Said tease
Repulsion
(from here it’s out of order)
Quest
Little Fury Things
Freak Scene
The Wagon
Thumb (w/S. Thorpe)
Get Me
What Else Is New
Not You Again
Alone (w/S. Thorpe)
Ammaring
Just Like Heaven (encore)I think that’s it, anyway. He played for a little over an hour — many of the songs featured *very* extended soloing. Hell of a show. J was sporting a different Wipers shirt than the one he wore during the summer tour, for those keeping track of his seemingly endless array of t-shirts.
September 14, 2005 at 11:39 am #111943Did anyone record this!? I was so disappointed that the live strem on the CBGB didn’t work. If someone has it, please post to Freesofree.com. Looks like an awesome show.

Gotta love that…

Love your new avatar Fata Morgana
September 15, 2005 at 1:26 pm #111946Yes, and the Wharton Tiers Ensemble were greatÂ
Something like experimental surf music or instrumental Sonic Youth… I liked the title of their songs like "Sweet" and "Sheet Metal Workers"… and if the man himself ever needs a recording studio assistant
Oh yeah, I forgot, studio assistants probably don’t exist anymoreÂ

Plus, whoever left that polka dot scarf on the bench–I have it if you want it back… plus a yellow Fender pick, but I’m not giving that backÂ
September 18, 2005 at 3:56 pm #111947not you again ?> bitchin’ ! that is my favorite track..
