Definitely sounds like a plan

Maybe with the release of the reissues or a new Fog disc, a freaks deal of some sort associated with that
August 17, 2004 at 8:21 pm #104427I’ve said it before + I’ll say it again… GREAT IDEA

Since this would be fan driven event how about a few contests to boot.
1 – Covered by Fans – A contest where You or your band covering a J/Dino song is submitted and voted on by the fans for best/most original cover.
2 – Poster/sticker/T-shirt design contest for the event. Proceeds of sales to go to the charity of J’s choice?
Possible prizes…. – Free Tickets, Signed Merchandise, Dinner with J, an opening slot for the event, join J onstage for a song, respect from your elders or maybe even Spanakopita
* Remember, these are just ideas
Webcast maybe?
after the event idea – A CD/DVD RELEASE of the event!!!!
August 17, 2004 at 10:49 pm #104428okay i forwarded everyones idea’s to J’s managment, I like them all, hopefully this thing will get going, the sooner its planned the sooner we can get sponsers and sell tickets
ill keep you all posted on whats going on,
and please post more ideas
August 17, 2004 at 10:54 pm #104429Wow, Rich, looks great, lets keep it going. Juan is sitting with me and he said how about we go to NYC for the J fest and then keep going North, say Maine or even into Canada. I like the question and answer idea. Spanakopita, I make the best spanakopita, so I would donate the spanakopita.
August 18, 2004 at 12:09 am #104430cool, i may have a special preparty for like 20 freaks/j-heads at my place, so if i do i expect tons of spanakopita, and tons of guinness

2. I am sure J would be down if it was that much notice, like next Spring
3. My band would be down to play, and we could just do covers if thats what people wanted. We may need some cover bands to play for little or nothing to get some funds raised to throw this thing
so anyone in a major metropolitan area, who knows a band that would do it, just mention it to them.
no def plans as of yet
August 18, 2004 at 8:26 am #104433I don’t think a band should come in and play all covers (unless that is all they do) but it would be a nice tribute to J/Dino for a song or two I think. Would hate for them to blow an opportunity to have the originals heard.
August 18, 2004 at 8:37 am #104434yeah def for the fest itself, im just talking about fundraising partys, having a J dino cover band play, to raise some funds for the fest
August 18, 2004 at 9:40 am #104435That would work

How about the fan created Merch for another source of possible funds…….
there would be obvious no copyright violation rules but original creations with 100% of the profit going for this would be a good thing
August 18, 2004 at 9:53 am #104436So cool to see all the great ideas popping up!
I think there should be assembled sort of an organizational committee(sp?) so it can be established as quickly as possible how much a thing like this would cost, if there’s enough time to organize it before the coming summer etc.Regarding fan merch, I’ll ask Sophie if some J bags could find their way from nutella land.
Robert function not well sleep without.
August 18, 2004 at 10:41 am #104437I worked for several years at Waseca, an alternative montessori school, we
provided wonderful vegetarian lunches ( samosa’s, spanakopeta, black bean soup w/homemade cornbread etc.. yum, yum) classes in yoga and drumming etc. Waseca now has every year a "Wasecapaloosa" and tends to earn a bit of money through a raffel, and selling posters from the event.I have been making and selling baby blankets and I have just started to sew words around the borders. I could donate a few baby blankets with J lyrics around the borders, the blankets sell here for $75.00 in New York I imagine they could fetch more.
August 18, 2004 at 12:08 pm #104438cool im glad to see all us freaks coming together, as soon as J’s managment gets back to me, maybe ill set up our own little fundraising committee here
August 18, 2004 at 1:50 pm #104439so great to see, that this wonderful idea is taking a glimpse of shape !!!

there are so many cool J related bands & musicians who could be asked, so far there have been mentioned:
-Memory Eraser
-Lard Zeppelin (or any of Ray Neades’ projects)
-The Wounded Knees (Suzanne Thorpe/Jimi Shields),
-Sea of Cortez (or any of George Berz’ projects, or just him, djing)
-Deep Wound (or Scott Helland/ Charlie Nakajima in another context)
-Evan Dando/Lemonheads
-Juliana Hatfield
-Sebadoh (or Lou, in any kind of appearance
)
-Murph (maybe w/ his band, Sons Of The Corporate Dog)
-Watt (with any of his current projects)
-Kevin ShieldsI’d like to add:
-Any Sonic Youth member
-Cobra Verde
-The Punk Rock Aerobics makers, maybe organizing a class, J dj’d for that before, or: they’re also musicians and have their bands/projects
-Dave Schools (Widespread Panic/ Stockholm Syndrome)
-New Radiant Storm King (their Matt Hunter has been playing bass in the Fog)
-The Tom Collins (Fog Drummer Kyle Spence’s band)
-Kurt Fedora
-Mike Johnson
[edit:] Bobby Gillespie/ Primal Scream (who are also connected w/ Kevin Shields)I know that some of them live geographically far away from NYC/Boston, but with enough time in advance for them to integrate it into their plans… would be so great to have the one or other of these name on the bill!
and, concerning merch, I said it before, any kind of FreakScene.net merch would rock, stickers, t-shirts, hats…
August 18, 2004 at 2:37 pm #104440jeremiah, you are a mind reader ! last night just as i turned off my set + drifted off to sleep, i was thinking about a sticker/t-shirt design contest/charity idea … crazy

anyhow … my only other idea was to have a poll here of j songs (fog/dino whatever) + then hopefully (if j agreed to play) he’d be kind enough to play like the top 3 or so !
+ i also, like the idea of tying it all up w/the re-releases as well  … so i guess that would put this whole thing at the end of next summer or even the fall …
