According to their website ( http://www.xfm.co.uk ), J will host "Hi-Jack" on London radiostation XFM on October 22nd, 9-10PM UK time.
In the show he is going to play some of his favorite records and talk about them (I wouldn’t believe the talking part until I hear it, though ).

This are the links for the Windows Media Streams:

"The chief problem about death, incidentally, is the fear that there may be no afterlife – a depressing thought, particularly for those who have bothered to shave. Also, there is the fear that there is an afterlife but no one will know where it’s being held."

Just a note to remind those interested that this is tomorrow. Also, they now have an interview with J on their website, with some funny stuff. (About Freakscene – the song, of course: "I am now totally sick of it", followed by a laugh…)

"Finally, there can be no doubt that the one characteristic of ‘reality’ is that it lacks essence. That is not to say that is has no essence, but merely lacks it. (The reality I speak of here is the same one Hobbes described, but a little smaller.) Therefore the Cartesian dictum ‘I think, therefore I am’ might better be expressed ‘Hey, there goes Edna with a saxophone!’"

Jasper, thank you so much for posting the link. It totally cracked me up! I was excited to hear that J might venture into the world of rap. I really like hip-hop music (I see no reason to limit my tastes) & "Missing Link" is one of my favorite Mascis projects as well as one of my favorite songs in general. I think the Judgment Night album was way ahead of its time. Mixing rock music with hip-hop beats works if you can find a good balance between the two. But if it lacks the lyrical richness of real hip-hop it ends up sounding like Limp Bizkit, and if it lacks good instrumental work it ends up sounding like that Puff Daddy recycled disco crap.

I feel sometimes like the media has drawn all these lines around & in between bands in order to decide what gets marketed to whom. In real life musicians are just all taking their part of "the big song" as Chris Robinson so eloquently put it on Vh1. If you have ears you are affected by what you hear, and I can’t think of any reason for bands not to mix it up & experiment with different styles & sounds that they’ve been exposed to.

Someone once said that there is no such thing as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ music, only true or false music. I think that J is a true artist & I would be thrilled to hear him collaborate with frickin Britney Spears if it’s what he wanted to do.

All for now, folks-
Rosa

For some reason J was on from 8-9 PM UK time (an hour earlier than their website said), and I only heared the last five minutes of it.
Did anybody heared the whole show? I’d like to know what J played, and whether he said anything interesting.

Im afraid we in the UK are 1 hr behind the rest of europe owing to archaic daylight saving laws

The dim hippies at xfm wouldn’t have thought of that. Too busy lining up another Stone Roses track I expect (sigh)

I listened to him last night (8 pm our time), and yeah, he was hardly talking. ’twas more of a mumble really. He seemed to like it and played a lot of thrash and Lemmy like stuff (Silver Machine – Hawkwind), but also some softer stuff.

Guy must be gettin’ old!

Still, it made a nice change from one of the Brit-pop arseholes talking about The Beatles or Nick Drake (not that I’m dissing Nick – but it gets a little boring when all the Paul Weller/Oasis wanker wannabees hop on the old bandwagon, knowwarimean?)

Well – back to work!

Uh, how do I get some stars by my name?

DO I have to come up with some random quote?

How’s about this

"I mean to have you even if it must be burglary"

Thanks for posting the link to the interview, it was great. Loved the bit about drummers being like boxers ie shaking their brains around and not being quite right after that……hilarious!!!!
