wow ! many, many thanks to you guys for filling us in on what we missed … 2 hours of talk + music w/j — i wish i could have heard it too … but for sure my husband would have thought i was crazy as well  partly b/c the show was on from 3-5am over here, partly b/c he knows how i need my sleep (beauty + otherwise) + partly b/c our computer is in our bedroom … so it would have involved waking him up too … so i really, really hope someone did record this somehow … anyone ?

hey annastefka, i know what you mean about the 24-hour clock … that took a little getting used to for me when i 1st came over here  … but if it makes you feel any better, even some british people have problems w/it too :D

oh annastefka, i forgot to add that until recently i was a (specialist) marine travel agent … which means that i booked flights, hotels etc for ship’s crew (from the captains themselves, right down to the cooks + even the hairdressers + medical staff etc on shipping vessels + cruise ships) + so i had to learn the 24 hour clock for that

what was the answer to this ?

            Quote:
They had a phone-in competition to ask which Sonic Youth record J appeared on, and had his picture on the cover. The presenter asked J if he knew, and he said he didn’t but looked forward to finding out the answer.

+ also, what was the deal w/this ?

            Quote:
Ahhhaaa, Meagre, is an alternative spelling of the word Meager, which was J’s only complaint at the end of his stint as he referenced his material.

            :D

most importantly … i guess no one recorded this, huh ?

Ciccone Youth was the answer to the first question! I thought a sort of trick question and the whole deal with Meagre is that I had never seen that word, I was thumping my head trying to think. I just came to the conclusion that the word was a miss-spelling of meager, only to find out it is an alternitive spelling or British Spelling or the word. I had never come across that spelling of meager. I have been reading lately about homebirths in the UK and I am coming across many terms that I don’t know. Oh, and I have to add so J’s only complaint at the end of the show is that he wished he had brought more music with him.

A guy rang in who seemed pretty knowledgeable, and they had a bit of a discussion about SY stuff that was mostly over my head. He made a stab at the Ciccone Youth album, which J said was close enough. I now find that J did play on track 10 "Two Cool Rock Chicks Listen To Neu", which helps me understand part of the chat.

After about 80 minutes J said he was running out of songs to play and invited people to bring some stuff along for him. I don’t know if this ever happened. Towards the end, the co-host asked J what he would have done differently if he was doing it again, and he said he would have brought along more material.

It intrigues me to think that J must carry a heap of (often pretty obscure) music around with him on tour, as I’m sure he wasn’t using the station library.

I have been in touch with the station to enquire if the show can be made available in any format, still waiting to hear.

J’s on "Goo" as well, he’s one of the guys saying "Hey Goo, what’s new" on the song "My Friend Goo", but I can’t remember seeing a picture of J on the cover of either GOO or the WHITEY ALBUM… he’s on "MR. MACHINERY OPERATOR", tho’, which he produced… I betcha’re all sooo happy I cleared that up   hope I didn’t bore y’all to death…

Speaking of being "on" and "Radio Shows" and "Sonic Youth": At this very moment Sonic Youth are guesting as hosts/DJs on a RADIO EINS Radio show, that’s Berlin’s only halfway listenable-to station. Right now they’re playing something dfrom SONIC NURSE, before they had DNA and Cabaret Voltaire and some other stuff…

he brought some singles over w/him a few years back when he took over london’s xfm as well, but i think he flew over here directly from his home for that one-off show … but if you think about it, this time he must have travelled across the US from his home on the e.coast + all the way down the w.coast from seattle to san diego (on his recent tour w/the fog), then all over australia + finally up to akl before he played these 7"s … now that’s impressive

that would be so great if the station did archive that show + there was some way for us j heads/freaks or whatever you want to call us to have a listen … please keep us posted either way :D
