Basically i recently aqquired a 67 Jazzmaster quite cheaply and it plays like a dream. The only thing is i there is a small problem with the tremelo whereby when i push it down (towards the body, i don’t know the term) a couple of times the bar goes right to the bottom of the slot making it go a little stiffer and it also make a squeeking sound when i use it until i pull out the bar. Like i said not a big problem but i suppose i would rather it didn’t do it.

        Rooster, congratulations with the JM.
I think the people in the Jaguars/Jazzmaster threads at http://www.fenderforum.com will be able to help you further

          Rooster,

I own a 77′ jazzmaster myself. It seems that there’s something wrong with the tremolo slot. When you insert the tremolo bar in the tromolo slot, the bar is simply locked by a metal cylinder which applies pressure on the bar. I can imagine that this cylinder maybe is damaged. The squeeking sound is probably the bar, hitting the metal inside the tremolo system.

The jazzmaster tremolo system is really easy. I think you should remove the system from the body yourself, and find out what the exact problem is. Just remove the strings and the system screws. After this, you can remove the complete system and find out what’s wrong.

Let us know, if your problem is solved!

          Good luck…

This thread is about JM/jaguar tremelo setup: http://www.fenderforum.com/fdp.html?message_area_number=25&topic_number=120086

And there’s a lot more on that site, you can browse through topics or do a search for "tremelo" or something
            Good luck
