Dinosaur Jr – Awesome
Knoxville – not so muchIt was a really good show, although I don’t think many of the people there knew who the hell Dinosaur Jr were. It’s kind of frustrating to see a band you really love in that environment. There wasn’t a ton of excitement coming from the crowd, but the band sounded excellent (and just as loud as I thought they would) and I think everybody ended up having a good time.
But, for the encore, I had a bit of a problem. The band came out and Barlow was asking for song suggestions from the crowd. A few people shouted out "We don’t know anything!"
…so I started shouting out "Budge!". Barlow looked at me and said "Buzz? That’s not a song". They played "In A Jar" and "Just Like Heaven". It was good, but I really hate the notion that Barlow thought I was one of the ones who didn’t know their songs, after I’ve been listening to them for over a decade. So, if anyone on this board ever gets to meet Barlow, could you please tell him that the guy in Knoxville was shouting out "Budge" and not "Buzz"? Otherwise I’m going to be haunted by this for the rest of my days.
November 30, 2007 at 9:41 am #132631I’m embarrassed to admit this but I was born & raised in the Knoxville area & have ALWAYS had a hard time finding, then getting to, this venue. Last night was no exception as I could see it from the bridge but again couldn’t remember how to get down there to it. If they’re really going to try & spark life into that section of town they better get some damn signs up or something! And I know last night was the first show there at the newly renovated venue & I’m sure they have some kinks to get worked out, but the bar layout was a pain in the ass! You had to order & pay at one point then pick up your drink at another & halfway through the show they were running out of beer. But anyway…
In the last week & a half they gave away 300+ tickets for the show so I’m sure there were several hundred people there who had no idea what was going on. I don’t know how many total people were there but the place was pretty damn full through to the end. I wasn’t able to get there in time to see either opening band but thought Dinosaur Jr. sounded great… through the earplugs of course. I do hope the band & all the actual fans of the band enjoyed themselves. I know my buddies & I did!

Seriously………..I think your okay, I don’t know Lou that well, but well enough to know that he probably heard you correctly, buzz is just a word that he "Probably" can relate to…………that’s funny, no big deal man……..relax.

No more than a basketball? Perhaps he was going for a three pointer there.
Hell, yeah…..it’s friday, I can see that now.
November 30, 2007 at 10:50 am #132635if you post a reply to loobiecore.com, Lou just might forgive you
December 2, 2007 at 9:59 pm #132636i think you’re projecting knoxville’s inadequecies a bit……. a look at that audience tells me that most of the crowd know the band’s work. you had lots of people hanging back filling up the area instead of getting close, just standing around mesmerized. they sounded amazing in that venue, and i didn’t feel any need to use the earplugs i brought.
although i’m pretty down that little fury things wasn’t in the set. pick me up was incredible. this inbecile behind me started remarking about a 50 yr old man jerking off for ten minutes during an endless solo, and i told him i wish he’d just go all night.
December 3, 2007 at 9:08 am #132637yeah that solo was amazing…maybe you’re right about the crowd. i was near the stage and it seemed alot of people didn’t know who the band was…does anyone know what the first song they played was? it sounded somewhat familiar but I can’t seem to place it…
December 3, 2007 at 6:01 pm #132638the first song was Bulbs of Passion.
i was at the show and it was incredible. i think a good portion of the crowd didn’t know who they were but a lot of people did. i was up in front right in front of lou.
i don’t know the order but i remember most of the set went something like this…
bulbs…
almost ready
been there…
kracked
this is all…
pick me up
out there
feel the pain
freak scene
gargoylein a jar
just like heaveni think iam forgetting something… gargoyle i think was one of the highlights, near the end lous bass fell and he was on his knees playing it and it went on forever, which is good. i kept screaming for raisans but some drunk guy next to me was screming at the top of his lungs for in a jar and just like heaven. the show was amazing and i got all sorts of cool swag. and i got lou to sign mirror the eye. derek from awesome color gave me a free cd and poster when i bought stuff. and the drummer allison gave me a cassette and said to listen to it loud. and they all signed the poster. i loved awesome color and can’t wait to see them again on the 18th. 1220 were great also. that was probably the greatest show i have witnessed. i took many a picture.
when the people started moshing this lady in a wheel chair had to move to the back, i felt bad for her.December 3, 2007 at 6:52 pm #132639heres my pictures
