wassn’t last night but i saw the Avett Brothers this past saturday, it was unbelieveable. I talked these guys up to my little sister for months leading up to the show, so much that i was worried they would never live up, half way through she grabs my shoulder and announces how this isn’t fair, "no band should be allowed to be this good", was her quote. They achieve a level of intensity unexplainable live. To say they bring it is an understatement. Sadly their albums can’t compare, yes they are a bluegrass band, which i’m sure isn’t very appealing to anyone hear, but i never thought i’d be into that style of music either, then i accidently caught their set at a festivel two years ago and now i’m a believer…

October 24, 2007 at 6:00 am #102886Queens of the Stone Age @ The Fillmore on Detroit. Sometimes it’s good to go into something with low expectations. They sounded much better then I thought they would. They put on a very good show. Played a good mix of songs off of all their albums. I’d go see them again for sure next time they come back to the Metro-Detroit area.

February 7, 2008 at 10:40 am #102893Do you have mice?
No, it’s not mice.
Do you have rats?
No, it’s not rats.
Well what is it?!
It’s Slash!February 13, 2008 at 10:14 am #102894Hot Club de Paris at Royal Albert Hall. Amazing. made a complete twunt of myself after having too many beers and telling the band how great they were.
they are big minutemen fans and played a tribute to d. boon. i was the oldest person there by about 10 years, and was in full suit and tie get up, but still danced like a luniac.
unfortunately then someone from the Times interviewed me and i have no idea what i said. damn.

Nice work on SLASH!!!!Dang, I would love to see Slash, but not for the same reason…

I think I’m getting old and outdated…I haven’t been to a show in months…or is it that good shows infrequently come to my neck of the woods…

Absolutely incredible show. I was amazed at how well they recreate the Loveless sound on stage, and the trippy films and lights and strobes were trance-inducing.
Most of the set was as loud as, or a bit louder than, the loudest Dino and Motorhead shows I’ve seen, but the final third of the set got even louder.
And then there was the "apocalypse" finale. I’ve heard it described, and have read descriptions of it, but it truly does defy description. The best I can do is say that the force of the sound was equivalent to what I imagine it would feel like to stand behind a 747 when it was taking off. But for 15-20 minutes, in a closed room. Air was literally forced out of my lungs by the change in atmospheric pressure in the room. My mind shut down, and all I could do was simply be. It was incredible, though I’m not sure I’d want to put myself through it again, even with earplugs.
