I’ve seen 3 great concerts in the past 3 weeks. Week 1 I saw Shellac, which was awesome. Steve Albini rocked. Week 2 I saw My Bloody Valentine, which was like a religious experience. Without a doubt the loudest concert I’ve seen (even louder than Dino!). The 15 minute noise "Holocaust" in the middle of You Made Me Realize was ungodly. Week 3 (aka last night) I saw Robert Pollard & his new band the Boston Spaceships. They played for 2 and a half hours! It was fucking incredible! They played a bunch of GBV songs at the end. And as always, Pollard was tanked. He drank about 10 beers and a bunch of Jose Cuervo during the show.
PS- I didn’t wear ear plugs at any of these shows!

They look OLD (I’m not sure Martin Glover goes by "Youth" anymore), but man do they ROCK. Relentlessly. A one-of-a-kind band.
Great fun.
October 11, 2008 at 11:36 am #102901Helms Alee. Not sure if ant of you have heard of them they are friends of mine. They have an album out on Hydra Head right now. It was very loud last night, so loud I had to put in earplugs because I felt physically ill due to the volume. Great show.

The first show I saw I was on the barrier in front of the speakers and I could actually feel the sound hitting me and my whole body was vibrating. An amazing experience. Not as good the second time but still fun.
Last show i saw was the melvins a couple of weeks back. It was great seeing them in Leeds University, they played honey bucket, boris and a really weird version of the american national anthem. That was funny along with Buzz singing okie from muskogee on his own

such a beautiful, powerful voice. even the sight of 100’s of middle aged white women dancing like freaks didn’t ruin it for me.
sometimes it’s nice to hear someone sing about lurve.
covered a few Otis and Sam Cooke numbers too.
Sheer heaven.
