I heard that Jeremiah Green, the original drummer, recently rejoined them…maybe thats the two drummer deal. Very cool, they only had one when I saw them last year.

Definitely agree on how cool it is that they can transform their music from album to a very pleasing live show, had a very good time at their show last year. Shame about that air conditioning problem, people fainting…

Glad you enjoyed the show & road trip

true! that’s the same cathedral, I’ve just been in :)🙂 looks like a spaceship out of another century indeed, so very big, in the center of a normal city.

          Quote:
The cathedral in Cologne looks like a spaceship
like the hand of God falling from the sky
1000 stone carved saints hang like icicles
but icicles don`t take 1000 years to die
and everyone who ever worked on this cathedral
or even spent a moment walking by
everyone of us is swept away like breadcrumbs
what comfort does it bring soaring towers left behind?

Allison, I haven’t heard about Jeremiah Green joining the band again! thought he left in big anger, or something. it was looking weird, two drumkits/ two drummers on stage :) and it wasn’t that they were there to make more noise, it looked more like they shared the job…

looks like it’s true, Jeremiah Green came back :):):)

            Jeremiah Green Rejoins Modest Mouse

Perry Farrell seals the deal in East Indian unification ceremony, Loreal
            Joshua Sharp reports:
It’s official: After weeks of rumors, and more than a year of separation, former drummer Jeremiah Green has rejoined Modest Mouse. Green left the band back in April of 2003, following a series of tense and eventually discarded recording sessions for what would eventually become the band’s fourth full-length release, Good News for People Who Love Bad News. Green had played in the band for a good ten years prior (since their inception, in fact), and while the motives behind the split were never fully explained, Isaac Brock told us at the time that the separation was "not necessarily permanent," and that the drummer had "a lot of shit going on with him that I really shouldn’t talk about."

According to a spokesperson for Sony Music, Green began rehearsing with the band again a week ago, and will be joining the group for their upcoming summer tour. Their first performance together since the split is slated for this Friday, when they’ll appear on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel show to promote their new record. You may recognize most of these tour dates from about a week ago, but there are a few additions and clarifications since our last report, and besides, everyone likes a helpful reminder. Green is the new pink. …

During Green’s absence, drummer Benjamin Weikel provided on-tour and in-studio percussion (and did a damn fine job of it, we might add). Weikel’s full-time band, The Helio Sequence, released their third album Love and Distance on Sub Pop just this past Tuesday, so don’t you worry about him, he’s got plenty to keep him busy.

Hey FC, sounds like you had a great time and saw a great show…. 8)

Cologne is a nice & friendly city, don’t know if you had time enough to visit the small Altstadt with it’s nice pubs & restaurants……

By the way, you can check if the Dom is still there with the DomCam

true, I forgot to mention the third tourist attraction in Cologne, the high beer culture which is cherished in the old part of the city with all those neat pubs. there is also a special Cologne beer, Kölsch, I’m sure you know that ;) :P
I made an attempt to enter that scene, but didn’t get too far, because I was tired after the show.
I like the Cologne folks, they’re relaxed and unformal, other than the cool & reserved mentality here in north germany.

nice webcam, although right now, it rather looks as if the cathedral went back home to outer space …most likely it’s a trick of the darkness, though :)

PS thanks to you folks here on the site I discovered Modest Mouse, in my case it was especially the effort of ELJ, who insisted that much about how great MM are, that I kept listening, even after I didn’t like them the first time I heard them :D

… whole lotta led (a led zep tribute) @ the standard in walthamstow … they did a really good job … … this time they played a mix of stuff … the last time we saw them they played their entire 1975 earl’s court set … every time they play a 2 1/2 hour set … if they come round, go + see them – they will not disappoint :D :D …

last night I saw Adam Green :D I was surprised a bit, but the show was sold out, with many more without ticked, who stayed outside to listen. that meant, of course, when it was still 30 degrees outside, inside we were clutched in a packed place. without air condition or even fans. don’t know which temperature it was inside. but it was hot :o
                        Everyone enjoyed it, though.

Interesting was, that there was such a high percentage of screaming, cheering teenie fan girls. there were enough of the other usual indie rock show crowd, but these teenie girls surprised me.
The opening band was Adam’s band w/o Adam. they did a good job, and played their own songs, so it was fine.

But when Adam Green came on, it started to get quite surreal. I mean I like his songs a lot. but these teenage fan girls definitely liked them more, they were all singing along & screaming to every move Adam made. well, I have to say, he is a very talented song writer and stage performer, he made it easy for us to stay in a good mood in the dripping heat.
so it was a surprisingly entertaining & nice show, he played many songs from the "Friends Of Mine" album, and also some of his earlier days. the encore was him alone doing a great and affecting acoustic medley, and then everyone was glad to get outside.

…Robert says I should also listen to Adam Green’s former band, the Moldy Peaches, so I’m about to check them out…

I don’t know how it will be with the Thermals tomorrow. the club is half as big, and will surely be as packed, temperatures outside will be similar, but additionally, all the club will be a moshpit  :?

Saw Sonic Youth on Aug 4th. T’was a very good show–they never disappoint. Three encores. The place was packed and they played a lot of songs from Sonic Nurse. Some songs from Murray Street and such. It was a great birthday present. I saw the second opening band, the George Leningrads and they freaked me right out! 8) Freeky-Deeky Punk dada Wave Disco

last night I saw The Thermals, with opening act Mr Brown.

to make it short, I was right with my prediction:

the opening act Mr Brown are a local band, dressed up in a Hives style, with songs in English. I liked their set very much, I guess if they continue with what they do, we’ll hear more of them areund here.

at the Thermals set, despite of the temperature & crowd temperament, I had fun standing in the first row, because everyone was happy, respectful and non-aggressive. after the show I was wet like after I had a shower, because of sweat & spilled beer … hey, I swear, we all had fun! :D
during the gig, the singer Hutch Harris threw off almost all his clothes, because of the heat, and when a girl shouted "sexy!", he said very dry "I know."
they played most of the songs I liked from their two albums More Parts Per Million [2003] and Fuckin A [2004], (although not the great song "I Know the Pattern").

and finally I bought their 2 albums & hey it was time to do so! their music is so full of energy and cool at the same time. I listened to it so very much the last weeks.

Thanks for a nice rewiev, think I’ll have to look around for the thermals.
