Traininvain-It seems to me that J’s never really matured. I just feel bad for the rest of the band who signed up for this reunion tour. He might be a musical genius but I wish everyone would stop standing up for his character.

J makes it look easy up on stage, but that huge guitar sound comes from somewhere. Sounds like he tried to keep it going but lost the concentration needed to continue, took a minute to get back on track & they started up again…I don’t see the problem ???

Dinosaur have been totally professional thru this reunion tour, sounds like they were in KS as well.

Shame about Kevin S & the roadies getting pelted with beer & bottles ::)

Glad the rest of you liked the show, anyone taping in the crowd, pictures would be cool… ;)

i still think they should play feel the pain … and I think Lou should have seen his right to eventually play some of his own stuff while J was out suffering.. I think J probably was afraid of tooth injury, or else he would have kept on playing no mather what. it doesn’t matter if the mic is in his stomach or what… he still should have kept the guitar playing going.. that’s what he’s paid for… :D

Wasn’t it Lawrence, KS where HR from Bad Brains went nuts and clubbed some skinhead with his mike stand during a show about 10 years ago? What’s the deal with Lawrence?

From what I have heard so far about the Kansas show, there were a lot of people who were there because there is not shit else to do in Kansas.. It doesn’t seem as if they really wanted to see a Dinosaur show. (Disclaimer: I realize this does not apply to some of the awesome diehard fans who have already made comments here.) Whether the guy on the front meant to do it or not, as someone noted, J does sing very close to the mic and if you got knocked in the mouth with it, you would instantly feel pain coupled with a quick flash of anger. It is instinctive and biological. Although J plays like God, he is still human. How is that not "professional?" I have never seen any "unprofessional" bands work as hard as dinosaur have on this tour.

The "roadies" to which you are refering are Kevin Sweeney and Kyle Spence. They are the guys who set every single piece of equipment up on stage and make sure it works so you can hear the show that you paid "nearly $30" for (You cheap bastards – It is Dinosaur for god sakes…) Just like the band, Kevin and Kyle do this every night. It is the same routine. Set eveything up and take it down in a new town each day and sometimes, in a new country or continent.

I guess if people are throwing beer at them they should stand back and laugh. Haha! How fucking hilarious..

this is a wholly ignorant and ridiculous statement. get off your high horse and out of defense mode! a couple people were simply trying to explain what THEY saw at the show and to explain why it really wasn’t as big of a deal as it’s been made to be. the crowd LOVED the show and i can attest that the venue was nearly filled once dino jr came on stage. the fact that you think people in kansas would pay money to see a show because "there is not shit else to do in Kansas" means you’ve never been to lawrence or kansas city. maybe next time, you should think about what you say before you open up with off the wall generalities and stereotypes like you did in your last post.

Is it the Kevin Sweeney in hayride? I went to school with him and lived in Athens, GA while he was out there. I occasionally would say hello to him at a hayride show. He’s a cool dude.

I’m pretty sure he’s from or lives in Athens (iirc, his wife teaches there ?) so it’s probably the same guy. Kyle Spence also plays/played drums in The Fog.

Yeah that’s them – they are Athens musicians.

Tom_in_Chicago – You always seem to be in the know about everything.. I’ve noticed how knowledgable you are from previous posts.

Well a little late but, I figured I’d throw my opinion out there:

First, HANDS DOWN the loudest show I’ve ever been to. In fact, too loud. I was just right of center about 20 feet back (In front of the mix board) and at some points all you could hear was the dead thud of a standing sound wave. That place is just too small to hold Dino’s sound.
The show was pretty good. And I actually think quite the opposite of what’s posted here: They were on fire until the mic incident. After that, they never could get it going again. They just seemed agitated. The result was a short set list and only two songs during the single encore. Nothing the band did in particular, just a bad set of circumstances. Sucky…
Other then that, my only gripe was J kept soloing over to the very far right of the stage, almost facing the wall when he did. Nobody could see crap except the lucky dozen or so people right in front of him. Man, I LOVED his tone, though: BIG, FAT, and CLEAR.
Highlights for me included an awesome Little Fury Things, No Bones, and The Wagon, which sounded especially tight. Oh, and the mic incident interrupted what was probably going to be the best song of the set: Raisins. It was also halarious to see the look on Murph’s face when J walked off the stage, followed shortly by Lou. He looked so confused. He turned one way, then the other, then did an "exit stage right" himself. :D

On a similar note: We were driving down Massecusetts looking at the sites when all of a sudden my buddy nudges me: There was this 5’10" long grey haired dude with big rimmed glasses standing by himself on the corner right on front of Liberty Hall: It was J freaking MASCIS! So, we park the car and head that way. The tour bus was parked on the corner by where he was, but no sign of J. S**t! So, we go into the show and buy a couple of t-shirts (and YLAOM on vinyl!) and walk back to the car to put up our stash. On the way back into the show, just as we were about to go back in, guess who’s walking right towards us: J freaking MASCIS, again! I readied myself and tried not to gush like a schoolgirl. By the way he was walking and looking down I could tell he didn’t want to be messed with so, I just asked to shake his hand and gave him the I’m- a- big- fan- you- kick- ass line. I’m such a dork. Still, nice to know I touched the hands that play all those great solos. Mark one more thing off my "Life’s to do list".

J could have been genuinely concerned about his tooth. His dad was the town dentist, I’m sure J is well schooled on oral hygene and the like. Maybe he was just trying to assess the situation. I’m guessing he’s not like Jerry Sinefeld, according to Kramer he’s an antidentite.

He was. In fact, when he came back out he mumbled something about "checking to see if his teeth were still there". He WAS noticeably pissed, though.

Tonas and Duane – This dental conversation has made my day..

Quite possibly this is one of the most interesting turns of topic that the freakscene forum has seen as of yet..
