      Hey everyone, first post BTW.

I’m looking for a new guitar. I’ve been playing for only a few months, but am pretty good. Right now I have an Ibanez GAX 60 I believe… I was looking into Fender Telecasters/Strats, but really have no clue what I should get. Please post recommendations and stuff like that here.

      Thanks :D

All I can say is go to a guitar store and play them. Buy the one that feals and sounds good to you. If your going fender I would say AMerican or Japanese over the mexican other than that its your guitar buy the one you like. Don’t be fooled by salesman or looks. Its about feal and sound.

Ammaring: Do you mean that the Japanese Strat is better than Mexican??
          Why?

THey are made with better wood, parts and manufacturing. In some cases the japanese are better than the american. That is why the mexican are the cheapist.

Mexican made Fenders are a gamble… It might be really good (I’ve seen a few that I liked better than some USA ones), maybe it’s total crap… more likely it’s somewhere in between… Newer ones seem to be more consistantly towards the better end than the older ones.

The type of wood is a matter of preferance. Japan models are usually made of basewood, Mexican mades are typically made of poplar (USA’s are made from alder or ash). This mostly due to the availability of each type of wood to their respective locations. Japan models tend to have a better finish to then though.

The Mex-made electronics are pretty much crap, but that’s not too hard to replace down the line…

Expect to pay more for the Japanese models.

Bottom line is that you need to get out there and try several of them and see if you can find one that just feels right to you.

Don’t be too quick to go with just Fender or Gibson either. I’ve found G&L’s lower priced "Tribute" line to be very good, and you really can’t go wrong with Yamaha if you want a reliable instrument that’ll last nearly forever at a good price.

Ok, i thought the Japanese were the cheapest Fenders.
