Alright Bucky, you bailed us out! I was ready to get this thread going again:
Daybreak, nightfall, long as I believe
there ain’t nothing glowin’ like this skin you’re showin’
and the keys you gave to me
nightjails, poolhalls, some things are everywhere
so for the past I’m diggin a grave so big, it will swallow up the seaFebruary 10, 2006 at 12:48 pm #113173"duane " wrote:Alright Bucky, you bailed us out! I was ready to get this thread going again:Daybreak, nightfall, long as I believe

My turn…
"This is not reality
This is just formality
The cup is only being filled
For the chance to have it spilled
Flowing just like the days
Sailing just like the days"February 10, 2006 at 7:25 pm #113174…..GBV – Wandering Boy Poet
……Knew it was a GBV song immediately, had to dig deep in memory (and record collection) to identify the song….

How about this classic:
Natural splits sunburn jets price marks smart bets
Strikers luck pitch backs heap tips pit slacks
Dressed pints demon shrinks bread drunk dead drinks
Stretch clubs models box draw skin black shocks
Money spines paper lung?

Wondering not wandering
.There`s a great piano version of that on Pollard`s Suitcase box set. It`s even better than the Vampire On Titus version. Not sure what song that is
.The Fall?February 13, 2006 at 5:37 pm #113176"SG " wrote:Not sure what song that is
.The Fall?,
….right country, right period ["post punk", whatever that may be…
], wrong band…. (and like the Fall, they are still around…
)February 14, 2006 at 8:28 am #113177Without these guys, GBV wouldn’t sound like they do. They’re a "band other bands listen to" more than a commercial success. REM covered a couple of their songs: "Strange" on Document, for one. Minor Threat and Bloc Party covered them, too.
That’s Wire with A Bell is a Cup.

This one hits me at the core:
We’ve got solid state technology, tapes on the floor
And some songs we can’t afford to play
When we came here today, all I wanted to say
Was how much I miss you
Alcohol and cotton balls
And some drugs we can’t afford on the way….

Red Eyed And Blue by Wilco
Yeah,Wire is cool.Outdoor Miner sounds like GBV but it`s like from 1978.
Try this one…
"Stick a message in my mind
I would open anytime
Open up to see You
Any time
You`re living in a hotel
Guarded by a camera
And I can never see you now"February 15, 2006 at 6:10 pm #113179"duane " wrote:That’s Wire with A Bell is a Cup.
…just a minor remark: that’s the album, the actual song is "Kidney Bingos", like you said, great band…. (and one of the catchiest songs they made, no idea what’s it all about though…..

…now, that is a cool band, saw them live a couple of times, unbelievable energy…..
A couple of years ago REM did a warmup gig for an European tour in a small venue in Utrecht, I was lucky enough to be there, they did an excellent cover of Magnapop’s "Favourite Writer", with Magnapop’s Linda Hopper joining them on stage….
February 15, 2006 at 7:25 pm #113181…and here is a new
one:She dreams of high school, nose rings and new shoes
But I hear voices in my head, on the TV, in my bed…hint: there’s a definite J. Mascis connection here….
February 16, 2006 at 7:05 am #113182Hey Bucky
Magnapop are playing Holland and Belgium in the spring so you might get a chance to see them again…February 22, 2006 at 12:22 pm #113183"Bucky Ramone " wrote:…and here is a new

With J Mascis on guitar
February 22, 2006 at 3:07 pm #113185Way to go AGAP! You should’ve posted some lyrics, though.
Here’s a nice, happy one:
I dream about how it’s going to end
Approaching me quickly
Leaving a life of fear
I only want my mind to be clear
People making fun of me
For no reason but jealousy
I fantasise about my death
I’ll kill myself from holding my breathFebruary 22, 2006 at 4:28 pm #113186I’m not much of a lyrics girl, but it seemed like it would go unanswered so…
