Not saying I’m right, but I agree with King Tubby. Not my cup of tea.

I would rather just hear J pounding on the drums then what the Markers were playing.

      To each there own.

I watched the "Markers" for the first time last night.
I am reminded of the films from the early 80’s called "Scared Straight"
they were designed to help troubled children stay away from prison.

Well, the "Markers" clip is the ultimate "Scared Straight" video for children
who don’t want to practice their music lessons. This too could happen to
you if you love music but hate to practice.

We have several of these type of things crop up around Athens from time
to time. In the words of Frank Williams, a friend of mine, after viewing one such
act, "Either these folks are brilliantly ahead of their time and therefore musically genius or they are just very, very bad."

I think the answer is the Markers are ……………………….Oh, well, you can fill in the blank yourself.

theyre from connecticutt, ive talked with them tons of times and theyre really awesome. i think theres a difference between "trying to start fights" and disrespectful people in the crowd screaming YOOOU SUUUUUCK, then the band reacting to it.

i mean, if you can do something better, then pick up instruments, get on stage and do it. and if i dont like it, i’ll still go to markers shows. cause theyre fucking awesome. obviously theyre not getting up onstage saying heres some santana guitar solos for you all. theyre doing what they do.. by choice, obviously theres people who care and wanna hear it, if you dont, dont go.

i just think if you go to a show, you need to show a little respect for whats going on on the stage. i mean nobody screams you suck at sonic youth when thurstons on top of his amp rubbing his guitar up and down.

Interesting bit in the preview text on the July 13th download at estatic peace, could be a part of the backstage stuff on the Dino DVD…

You’ll need to watch the documentary to see the backstage footage of Dino’s manager giving Elisa "tips". Classic.

Wonder how well she takes the tips ;)

I dunno…there are lots of noisey bands out there I listen to, but they all have some substance. All I’ve seen the Magik Markers do is just make is white noise with some yelling over it. Thats cool and all, but how can you have an album’s worth of material with just that?

Who knows. I’m probably just a square.

God bless the Markers, they seem like they are friends of J Mascis whom most of us here adore so I guess we should be nicer but…….as an example, I have been surrounded by a Man who has encouraged his children to make music and has been recording them doing it………..So I have heard a lot of noise. A lot of F^%king noise. When you understand music, you understand it has a flow, otherwise I think it is just performance art, which it an art form all to itself………I want to share an example……………This is a recording of my daughter and her good friends Anna and Brenna, when they were in the fourth grade (last year) two of the girls have studied music but in this recording they are using an electric guitar and a drum machine and a keyboard. Not the instruments of study at this point.
Three fourth grade girls and one balding Colombian father vs. the Magic Markers……………in a battle of the bands. I think the fourth grade girls would win out (but hey I’m the Mom) thats Dad who you hear talking to a friend in the beginning and then joining the girls singing in the end. He is singing ‘canto, canto and on and on…"
he is singing about them singing. I takes the girls less than a minute to find their "groove"

I think this is what one means by SUBSTANCE…………. http://www.villaveces.us/sounds/11.mp3″>http://www.villaveces.us/sounds/11.mp3
