I’ve read many interviews with J and he always mentions his skiing…does he still do it?
has J tried snowboarding?
I’d just like to know some of these things being into these sports myself.
Where did he ski? Vermont? (I think that’s Mass)
And was Deep Wound the outcome of his broken leg…that put paid to his pro-skier dream?
maybe JohnBonhamIsGod could answer some of these?!
July 14, 2001 at 2:39 am #52672Vermont and Mass are two separate states. I used to live in Vermont, in a little place called Killington. Great boarding, but unless you are into moose hunting, there ain’t an awful lot else to do.
July 14, 2001 at 7:44 am #52673doh…my American Geography ain’t what it used to be.
July 17, 2001 at 10:16 am #52674I thought this was pretty good thread…maybe we take it from the Out There video perpective…people might show some interest.
and try and find out who all the revellers are at the fire.
I’m pretty sure the lanky one in all in one red fleece with the spastic helmet on is Thurston Moore.
July 20, 2001 at 6:57 am #52675I like this thread does anyone care?
July 20, 2001 at 11:34 am #52676I like it,Eggwater. That Out There video is cool, like the drummer dressed up as a plant,I think,or something green. Is it Murph?
Like the scene at the end where J throws his guitar off the mountain. Was this video done when J was in Alaska?July 20, 2001 at 11:34 am #52677I like it

Flying Cloud is the name of a ski resort
J lettered in slalom racing for the Amherst ski team. (high school champ)
He snowboards too

July 21, 2001 at 2:31 am #52679Some Jski bits:
— a hardcore K2 loyalist
— not opposed to cross-country, but when pressed, would probably not consider it "skiing"
— childhood ski areas: the now-defunct Roundtop (VT), the now-defunct Berkshire Snow Basin (MA), Berkshire East (aka, Berkshire Ice, MA, where the ARHS ski team smoked weed and sometimes raced)
— Flying Cloud is a trail at Berkshire East
— Out There was shot in Canada
— to s’guy query, "Is it Murph?": on the cosmic level, please remember, it is always MurphJuly 23, 2001 at 11:53 am #52680Out There was shot by Greg Stump who was big in Ski films with that guy with the ‘crazy’ mohican (Glen Plake?!).
wonder what he does now?
No one’s named any of the revellers yet?!
* also why are those ski areas now defunct (global warming??)
July 23, 2001 at 12:11 pm #52681Plake died in during the shooting of an extreme movie about 3/4 years ago.
July 23, 2001 at 12:44 pm #52682how?
*the ghoul in me needs to know*
July 23, 2001 at 12:59 pm #52683Don’t quote me on this, but I think it was at Whistler, when from a vert off a cliff, his landing was not all that it could have been.
July 24, 2001 at 2:01 am #52684do you think he committed crimes against hairstyles and this was his punishment.
*from a different era of neon all in one jump suits*
so has this put Stump off filming or does he do Snowboard vids these days?
July 31, 2001 at 10:14 pm #52685Cool thread!
I went to high school with J. I have never downhill skied, prabably because of J and his "Ski Punk" buddies who always were bragging about running people down on the ski slopes. SKI PUNGKS!!!!
I never got over it… I consider cross country skiing SKIING. Down hill is hocky.
