Cool to have another Waits fan here! Bone Machine is a great album, those 2 songs are way cool
Coltrane`s Giant Steps is a catchy jazz tune, one of jazz`s best tunes for sure

This is too good- more Waits fans! I just got Mule Variations recently, then went back to Bone Machine, and next I’m going for the Swordfishtrombones – Frank’s Wild Years – Rain Dogs trilogy. If that guy ever clears his throat, his career’s over.
Hey- somebody who actually knows who John Coltrane is… this is getting freakier by the minute, I swear. I’ve been trying to listen to A Love Supreme recently, but it just doesn’t seem as accessible…

On the subject of that Garbage riff, I’m not sure now whether it’s Garbage or Pearl Jam… It sounds kinda like a cross between "Supervixen" and the start of "Nothing as it Seems"… might even be a Skunk Anansie thing…. AAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHH I just know it’s never gonna get out my head until I work out what it is….

On audiogalaxy this morning I found a thread about Waits`s best songs;I said Tango Till They`re Sore, that song rules! he has so many great songs.Mule Variations was my fav album in 99,he has 2 new albums coming out soon, should be cool.

Yeah I hear one of them (Alice) is to do in some way with another musical or something he was involved in?

PS on the jazz subject, di you ever listen to Blood on the Fields (Wynton Marsalis)? Everyone I know says they find it unlistenable but I find it kind of wierdly makes sense… maybe I’m just crazy

I`ve heard some of that Wynton stuff before;I don`t find it unlistenable.Wynton is`nt that interesting to me compared to other artists in jazz,he`s a good musician and all but with thousands of other jazz musicians I don`t spend much time listening to him;at least he plays real jazz and not that smooth lite bullshit that jazz radio stations try to pass off as jazz.
Alice Coltrane is involved in a musical about Coltrane?she was in his band in the later years;got alot of critics disapproval for not being good enough which I did`nt understand,I thought she played ok piano, maybe not the greatest but still she played well enough.Ornette Coleman once put his 9 year old son on drums in his band;problably to piss off the critics that did`nt like him no matter what he did.

I think you meant the musical is Waits new albums;I thought you meant Coltrane, now I think of it a Coltrane musical would be weird.
I took this thread off topic but it`s my thread so I can make turns when I want to head straight
