hey guys, very cool to see you around here
🙂
welcome & have fun on the site
interesting to see so many Flaming Lips fans who also like Dinosaur Jr/J Mascis … maybe a good reason for me to check out more Flaming Lips stuff
January 21, 2004 at 9:37 am #98198Hey Flying Cloud! Thanks for the gracious welcome!! Yeah–you should check some of the Lips earlier stuff–a lot more guitars in the mix, very psych-punk–a bit removed from Dino Jr., but worthwhile nonetheless
January 21, 2004 at 3:26 pm #98199Welcome Lysergic Beekeeper & Flaming Pixie
I agree about the early Flaming Lips being more than worth a check, Transmissions From The Satellite Heart, Hit To Death In The Future Head & Clouds Taste Metallic are good places to start. Soft Bulletin & Yoshimi should be checked out as well…
Hope you enjoy the site, lots of multimedia to view/stream, personal albums to upload pics, our freakscene album has some great J pics of all sorts uploaded by the cool freaks here…have fun
January 21, 2004 at 3:31 pm #98200welcome!
so, what’s the deal with the people that follow the lips around the country. kick-ass live show, although short.
January 22, 2004 at 9:11 am #98201Cheers Coma Girl and King Of Carrot Flowers!!
Coma Girl: Yes!!! "Hit To Death.." and "Clouds Taste…" are my two favourites!!!! Even "Oh My Gawd!!!" and "Telepathic Surgery" are decent—"In A Priest Driven Ambulance" is excellent for those who like their melody and noise in an equal balance–like J. and Dino Jr.
King Of: Hmmm…I dunno, they do put on a great show–but I think it’s the same set every show–just about…I saw them twice within days of each other on the 2000 tour..and it was the exact same show–even Looper, the opener–did an identical set–the Lips might be changing stuff up a bit now that they’ve added Kliph on drums for the live shows
January 22, 2004 at 3:10 pm #98202hey thanks for the Flaming Lips recommendations, so currently I have Transmissions from the Satellite Heart on rotation again (after I put it aside some time ago). Not bad, needs some more care I guess

I’ll try the one or other of the other records mentioned here soon
January 22, 2004 at 4:47 pm #98203Hey Dako! I’ve heard the good news about this site and I’ve come to join you! Apologies to hard core J fans…I currently only own one Dinosaur Jnr album but I’m sure you can put me right! This place looks so damned good.

We only allow those with all but one or two dino/j albums. Hey, Coma Girl, ban this IP now!!! We are a very secretive and selective club. :slap:
To be accepted, you must go out right now and purchase all remaining dinsoaur jr and j masics albums you do not yet have in your collection.

(JUST KIDDING, WELCOME!!!)
O.K., now that I got that bit of B.S. out of the way.. welcome to all those newbies on the board. The amount of vocal new members can’t be all bad, can it?
Carl.
January 22, 2004 at 5:39 pm #98205Thanks! I will endeavour to put my error right!
January 23, 2004 at 5:20 am #98206I’m sorry – that was very rude of me the other day to just crash in here and say Hello to Dako. I apologise
So Hello to everyone and thank you for the welcome. This looks like a really cool, well organised and well run site.
Pixie
January 23, 2004 at 8:17 am #98207Ha Ha Ha Ha–Carl kicks ass…I apologise about my lack of J. knowledge too–I’ll delve more into his stuff, esp. with The Fog
January 24, 2004 at 5:00 pm #98208people who are interested in checking out Dinosaur Jr/ J Mascis are always cool with us, of course

I saw The Lips three times last year from January through to October and it is certainly true that the set hardly changed at all in that whole time. Having said that, they do put on a great, great show and are very up-right fellows! Hopefully, the next time they come around, they will have completely revamped their show.
January 26, 2004 at 1:22 pm #98210you ever been to one of their "headphone concerts"?
January 27, 2004 at 4:38 am #98211i’d say telepathic surgery + in a priest driven ambulance are a tie for the best flaming lips album
+ you’re right … anyone who’s into j + dinosaur jr would like those albums b/c of their "melody and noise in an equal balance" …
