August 18, 2002 at 1:18 pm #71218OK, I couldn’t leave this one alone for too long. Please remember this is just my opinion so don’t hate me for it as I too respect others comments, opinions and whatever else they have to say, express…whatever. It is all cool with me.
The Strokes – When I first listened to them, all I could think about was The Rolling Stones back from like late 60’s up to late 70’s when Mick was kind-a singing talking and you really didn’t know what the fuck he was saying most of the time. That is the sound I hear when I listen to The Strokes. The videos at least hold my attention somewhat
Howie Day – MTV did a story on this ASS CLOWN, about how "innovative" and "genius" this guy is for playing acoustic guitar and using guitar effects (loops) at the same time during his live shows….sound familiar? This guy claims to have picked up the idea from Joseph Arthur who uses loops in his stuff. If you missed it he played on TV a few weeks back on Craig Kilbourn. I was NOT impressed at all! He looped a bunch of finger taps and knocks on the acoustic guitar and looped that as a rythem to follow/play to.
Whatever
August 18, 2002 at 6:08 pm #71219Someone recently told me that Godsmack actually took their name from an AIC lyric. I haven’t heard them but it makes sense that they’d sound like a ripoff band.
I’m not familiar with a lot of the groups mentioned in this thread. But let me take this opportunity to say that I cannot STAND Sheryl Crow and it sickens me to see her share the stage with all these rock legends. Her voice is awful and her lyrics are stupid. I suspect people enjoy her because she’s a woman who can put a few chords together, and she has good legs.
I can’t knock all the pop crap because some of it is catchy, and if it makes me dance, it can’t be all bad. Manufactured hits might be disingenuous but I think they have a place in our society, even if it’s just as commentary on our hedonistic culture. *shrug*
I’m a slaaaaaave for freakscene.

August 18, 2002 at 8:50 pm #71220Some bands/artists I can’t get into (but a lot of other people can, for reasons not quite obvious to me…):
System of a Down, Tool, Korn, Live, Nickelback, Incubus, Radiohead (from ‘Kid A’ on), Bjork, Tori Amos, Alanis Morisette, the whole British Muse/Coldplay/Doves school of bands, Badly Drawn Boy to name but a few…..
August 19, 2002 at 2:27 am #71221Please not hatin’ here.. .
One band (besides many of the above listed) I can not get into at ALL is Tool.. I mean, Sober was an O.K. song, but come one, do they all sound the same?
Speaking of sounding the same, I am just amazed that Godsmack wasn’t charged for some sort of larcony.. I was cruising through the 6 non-country video channels one day, and a godsmack was on. I swore it sounded like Jerry Cantrell wrote it, and Layne Staley was singing..
I am sure there are many more..
I do like how Britney is taking that 3 month break before she appears in a NASCAR movie That is some hiatus
Oh well, what can I do..
Carl.
