[K7 Rides Again]

Bob’s post made me think of this.
Seems like many movies today are all about action and computer made additions. The effects are sweet, but the stories are really lacking. As long as the explosions are big, and the effects are cool, who cares about the story?

This is why all the Star Wars movies are so great. Lots of action and effects, but there is also a spectacular and complex story line to go with it all. When it’s all said and done, it’s going to take six movies to explain the entire Star War’s story. Talk about drawing the big picture. I think that’s pretty impressive.

You’re so right on, Tone. Every day I find a good reason to raise my kids (if I ever have any) without tv. I mean, I really believe that part of being a parent is educating your children, rather than shielding them, so that they can objectively consider the world & make up their own minds about things. But god, sometimes I’m really mortified by the stuff being shown on tv.

I panic when I think about raising a kid, and lately I’m leaning far far away from the idea! I turned on The Sopranos one night because I wanted to see what all the hype was about, and the first thing I saw was a graphic scene of a woman being raped. And even basic station programming, all the cop shows and shit, is so incredibly violent and vulgar and shallow.

I walked through the junior’s department at Macy’s recently, and it was all skimpy halter tops and ass-tight pants. It kinda made me sick to my stomach.

Maybe this war we’re in will make people reconsider their obsession with death and sex.

But back to the original issue of celebrity…I think it would be difficult to actually BE one precisely because of what it has come to represent. When I think celebrity, I think red carpet, expensive clothes, plastic surgery, boring talk shows. It’s no longer about your talent or the quality of your art, and that’s gotta be sad if you become a famous actor/musician. To know that people just want to know what you’re wearing this week, and who you’re sleeping with. I can see why people get fed up with the paparazzi, and the fame in general. In no other profession are the successful so hunted, dehumanized, and obsessed over. I imagine it would be quite difficult to maintain your sanity, much less your identity irrespective of your career.

And finally, is anyone familiar with the Vonnegut story I mentioned earlier?

I’m not sure which Vonnegut story that is but is it from Welcome to the Monkey House? because I’m going to pick up that book tommorow, If you figure out the story tell me.

I think that we ugly girls (or at least, those of us who were repeatedly accused of being ugly throughout childhood) are stronger in character. But I’m generalizing. People who go through crap like that as a kid; well, some of them become serial killers, & others choose to let it make them more sympathetic and compassionate people.

I myself find that I’m not as intimidated by good looking people as I am by really smart people. Really smart guys make my knees shake. It’s a mixed blessing.

I just borrowed "Welcome to the Monkey House" from the library and The first story in it "Harrison Bergeron" is a lot like the on eyou mentioned but not exactly the same (There was no though houses). It’s the year 2081 and the 211, 212, and 213 amendments have been passed so no one can be more attractive, more strong/quick, or smarter than anyone else. Smart people have to wear devices on their ears that give a blast of noise every 20 seconds to interupt their train of though. Strong people have to wear a bag of weight around their necks and goodlooking people have to wear masks or rubber noses, shave their eyebrows, and wear black tooth caps. It’s really ridicoulous, disturbing, and funny.

ok, in the two posts i’ve left on this thread, i do not recall rebuking anyone’s first amendment rights in the slightest. i was merely partaking in the said priviledge and expressing my opinion, which is that this discussion is the most monumental borefest…ever. i didn’t tell you to cease and desist, did i? well ok, then.

and you people need to realize that oppositions are what make message board interaction fun and interesting. when everyone tip-toes around on egg shells, fearful of disturbing anyone with conflicting opinions, this place becomes a total douchefest.

and tom, can you please refresh my memory regarding the "…most uncalled for rebuke." i sent you, as i don’t recall that at all.

i’d also like to add that the bears are still a bunch of turd burglering butt pirates. i hope that wasn’t too imature.
