Joy Zipper – Joy ZipperJuly 10, 2004 at 6:19 pm #99853PJ Harvey-Uh Huh Her:I have to listen to this more. It`s the usual Polly Jean. She plays everything except the drums and there`s no Thom Yorke guest appearences which is a good thing

Jolie Holland-Escondida:one of the Be Good Tanyas;she`s like a jazzy Gillian Welch or if Norah Jones was a hipster
or if Chan Marshall was hanging around with Rickie Lee Jones. the music runs from folk to jazz and blues to alt country. This woman is too talented to have only a few tunes on a Be Good Tanyas album, her vocal phrasing is really cool, like Billie Holiday with a Texas accent.Iron And Wine-Our Endless Numbered Days:I would rather if he stuck to his lo fi home recording stuff but this studio album sounds fine;Brian Deck produced(he`s done Modest Mouse and Chris Mills among others and used to play drums for Red Red Meat)Elliot Smith might be gone but Sam Beam will keep his spirit on.
Sonic Youth-Sonic Nurse:after over 20 years and they still make great music;I wish Lee sang a little more on this record. They can make noisy guitars so dreamy
I like that tune Thurston namechecks blues guitarists(Johnny Winter,BB King, and Buddy Guy)50 Foot Wave-s/t ep:Kristin Hersh is pushing 40 and she`s rocking like a teenager!on the back it says SHARE THIS MUSIC so I guess they approve of uploading/downloading/burning music
the drummer they got rocks to say the least :aliensmile:July 11, 2004 at 11:06 am #99854hey SG, that’s an interesting selection of music

I just got a load of live video files on soulseek, 16Horsepower, Neutral Milk Hotel, Jeff Magnum solo, and I’m currently getting some live video recordings of Modest Mouse

Further, a user there recommended me Clem Snide, a mellow Alt Country band. I’m just about to check them out. they’re a bit (too?) quiet at the first listen, but they also have some great tunes

The Thermals – Fuckin A [2004]
Sub Pop punk pop, very nice

Haven’t heard the new Hives album yet, but the single ‘Walk Idiot Walk’ is great (great video as well…

No need to look that far away: Germany’s Gaesteliste.de has a review of the Stands album and a review of the Stands gig in Cologne (with interview and photo gallery)
dB says: Gaesteliste.de is cool!

…that reminded me of Death Cab For Cutie, who are still on onother "to be checked" pile, and I still didn’t come to check them, so far. so it’s a good reason to pull them up now..
I’ve read an interview with the Stands in the latest issue of the German roadtracks ‘zine, and I thought I’d check them. they’re fine, it’s nice happy summer music
thanks for the links, dB!
thanks also for the album recommendations, SG. from what I’ve read, the first Iron & Wine album should be great & authentic and kinda real bedroom production Lo-Fi. I’ll check that one, too
and the Thermals are really addictive! the songs really all sound the same, but after playing one of their records, I just want to hit repeat
