I’ve ripped all my cd’s to apple lossless and stowed them away in boxes. I’m in the process of doing the same with my dvd’s.
This means that I’ve got some TBs of data that I’m eager not to loose + have easy access to.
From where I sit a NAS or building a server seems to be a better option than countless external FW or USB2.0 harddrives.I’ve got a macmini as a mediacenter of sorts where the music is streamed to my stereo via airportexpress – dac – preamplifier.
I’m guessing I’ll use airfoil to send the vlc sound to the stereo when watching movies.
So I’m not in the need of a box to run itunes or vlc off of.Anyways, any thought on what road I should take.
NAS is Networked Attached Storage. By far the EASIEST way to store your hordes of data. And if you value that data, get a Buffalo NAS with mirrored Hard Drives. A Raid-0, Raid-1, or Raid-5
That means the data is mirrored across all of the drives, in case of hard drive failure, you’re fine, just replace the dead hdd.
