more california dates!
May 29, 2007 at 7:28 am #129298I picked up Rubber Factory over the weekend and I’ve been playing it over and over. I’m surprised I’ve never heard the Black Keys before. I ordered tickets for the Tabernacle show. I still hope Dino swings through the south again and plays some headlining sets. But since I can’t get to NY for the Irving Plaza shows, I’ll take what I can get!

May 29, 2007 at 9:13 pm #129300yeah, I would travel to NC to see the band………lots of good friends and family to stay with but I really think that they will be coming through Georgia again in the fall or early winter. I hope we get another show other than this June 21st thing.
I’m feeling kind of bummed lately about everything Dinosaur JR and I don’t know why. I’ll probably get over it.May 30, 2007 at 4:06 pm #129301"Annastefka " wrote:I’m feeling kind of bummed lately about everything Dinosaur JR and I don’t know why. I’ll probably get over it.It’s likely just a passing mood. I’m not nearly as psyched for next week’s shows as I normally am, but that’s down to how they’ve apparently jettisoned all the old songs I always love hearing and kept the ones I’m totally sick of. And it seems like they’re not mixing things up from show to show this time around like they have during the previous tours. Then again, I’m only sick of those tunes because I’ve been lucky enough to have seen them so many times over the past two years. It’s good to be mindful that for many people, this is the first, or close to the first, time they’ll hear many of these songs. And I imagine that the new songs must be getting tighter and tighter as they continue to play them.
When I think back to last summer and remember how, when I had seen the setlists for the shows they played right before I was going to see them, I was bummed by the same old-same old sets they had been playing. But when I went to the show, it didn’t matter because they were fantastic. So I have to keep that in mind.
Still……would it kill them to throw in Yeah We Know, No Bones, and Post every now and again? Or Quest or Does It Float? They certainly know them well enough to play them. Wouldn’t you think they get tired of playing the same stuff every night?
Maybe these couple of multi-night engagements in a row will compel them to dust off some of those tunes for variety’s sake.
May 31, 2007 at 11:39 pm #129302Hot damn. Living in Tulsa DOES have some purks. Like Dinosaur Jr. at Cain’s.
It’s been something like twelve year’s since I’ve seen them…..last time was at Tree’s in Dallas. I’m too old to go to shows much anymore, but i’m stoked. I, too, am irritated that DinoJr. is opening for Black Keyes, but BK is really damn good as well. It will be a great show for sure.
BTW, Cain’s Ballroom is in a warehouse district in Tulsa and was the site where legendary Texas swing musician Bob Wills broadcasted from. That, and there’s a hole in the wall where Sid Vicious punched it. Yes sir, Dinosaur Jr. at the Cain’s. Hooray for me.

The abbreviated set would automatically be a let down. The opening slot makes good sense though… It’s a chance to promote the new album to a room full of people that haven’t already bought it. Plus… Dino has been playing The Variety Playhouse on their last couple stops through Atlanta. The Tabernacle is a much bigger room. I’d be pissed if they just played for 30 minutes!I am a little bummed about them being the opening bandfor the Black Keys. I mean the Black Keys are not a bad band but…. i would think Dinosaur jr could headline some shows. I live in ATL too, but i’m not missing this show.
I want to hear the new songs live. I have not heard them before and for that i’m excited. Plus the tabernacle is a great venue! I was at the tabernacle a couple weeks ago and picked up a ticket at the box office for this show. for 15 bucks i can think of worse ways to spend my Thursday night. I bet since only two bands aer playing Dino will play a 45 minute set. I’ll watch a little of the black keys and head out early to beat the traffic out.
Maybe they will headline a tour soon and come back through
June 5, 2007 at 3:23 pm #129304I think these were the shows Murph was telling me about at the Olympia show (maybe not the dates he was talking about were in September). He said they were good because they get paid the same as if they were headlining but they only have to play for 40 minutes. Talk about increasing your profit margin, thats a good business move for them. Although its kind of shitty for the fans.
June 5, 2007 at 3:50 pm #129305Tonas,
I talked to Murph too, and he did seem real excited to be opening, because its an opportunity to play in front of a different crowd. Its a chance to win over some new fans.
June 5, 2007 at 5:36 pm #129306This will be an epic little jaunt. I’m hoping to get passes so I can get all of us some killer shots. The Black Keys slay.
June 15, 2007 at 10:31 pm #129307I caught the show on Wednesday night. Apparently J. and Co. had some issues getting to Cain’s and were a tad late. They didn’t have a set list and had to gather at the middle of the stage after almost every song.
There was a healthy crowd there….probably five or six hundred people or so. I like the Black Keys, but DJr. blew them off the stage. I know of several people who went who had never listened to them before, and went out and bought CD’s the next day.Hopefully they will want to come back to Oklahoma on a headlining tour……45 minutes just wasn’t enough!!
