I don’t know how this stuff is supposed to work, but is a thread for new record discussion okay?

Just something to discuss things like the similarity/sounds/evolution of the dinosaur jr sound with this record/etc?

      I saw these threads,

      http://www.freakscene.net/smf/index.php … 805.0.html

      http://www.freakscene.net/smf/index.php … 882.0.html

but wasn’t sure if they were the right place.

The record is out there, and it sucks it went down the way it did.

But the record is great all the same.

      What do you think?

      ===

      my thoughts:

"we’re not alone" — reminds me of a more matured version of "all the girls". the second half is wonderful, and the soloing is incredibly smooth, as expected. probably my favorite song right now. the guitar layering towards the last five seconds is cool – I would really love to hear the rest of it.

"i got lost" — reminds me of "little ethnic song" and "not the same", but that might be because the drums. "flying cloud" or "sideways" come to mind, but those aren’t really that similar.

"Back To Your Heart" — I’ve heard a Sebadoh song with a similar-sounding intro, but I can’t place it. It’s driving me nuts.

      So far..

      We’re Not Alone – ****
      Crumble – ****
This Is All I Came To Do – ***
Been There All The Time – ***
      I Got Lost – ***
      Almost Ready – ***

I’ve only heard the songs on the myspace page but I have to say I’m loving Almost Ready because it sounds like old school Dino. Been There All The Time is good but a little too Fog for me. I feel like J has a formula he’s been using a lot with his Fog material and this song (and "This is All I Came To Do") fits that formula. It’s not necessarily a bad formula, I was just hoping he’d branch out a little with the new Dino record.

but remember, what we’ve heard may not be the final mix/finished product…

I think you’re right, I could see alot of the songs being on a fog record but I kind of expected that after I heard This is all I Came to do. I would love to hear a weird song where they experimented more, like Pointless but that’ll never happen. Still overall it’s better than I thought it would be.

I’m looking forward to getting the real CD because the sound is not amazing but it’s good enough for me to start tabbing some of the songs out.

I’ve never heard these extra songs, apart from ‘Too Hard’… ‘can I tell you stories’… ‘Leaving on a jet plane’…

Can someone list the bonus songs, or B-sides from More Light – and Free so Free for me? or send me a link?

Also, where I can buy them.

                  Ta.

"Lets Go To Church" is pretty cool. It sounds like flute samplings from "thumb" (and other sampled/looped instruments) and that falsetto vocal style of "don’t you think it’s time"/"see it as always". It’s good house-cleaning music.

It’s "Thrive" (off The Sebadoh) – ’cause I thought so, too ! :D

This just makes me want it more. I can’t find the album for sale for less than $35 though. That’s a lot for two songs!

That album used to cost about 4-5$ in Sweden for a really long time. But it’s out of stock now.
