Excellent, have emailed up a storm already!
Guaranteed sellout in Wellington (Bar Bodega holds just under 400) and probably in Auckland too! Suspect the Ozzie ones will sell out too!:D
Bar Bodega is an excellent venue both sound and atmosphere wise and the owner Fraser is a good dude that does heaps for NZ music and generally supports any good music he can get to play at his bar, so I am stoked!:PWill post reviews etc afterwards! … must remember not to get too damaged beforehand, must remember to…..

J. MASCIS
AUSTRALIAN – NEW ZEALAND TOUR – MAY 2003Before grunge there was something called indie-rock, and one of its leading men was J.Mascis, who at the front of his hugely influential Dinosaur Jr. gave a gritty, slightly off-key voice to the wimps and losers of the world, years before Cobain and co formed Nirvana. For 5 nights in May he’s coming back to Australia to remind us he’s still around.
Mascis formed Dinosaur Jr. in the college town of Amherst, Massachusetts in 1983. A string of releases like You’re Living All Over Me (1987)and Bug (1988) crept up the college charts, earning the band a growing fan base across America but also in the UK. Early in 1988, the seminal single Freak Scene was released, a song that captured the feeling and tone of the emerging American post-punk underground. Freak Scene became a college radio hit and topped the Indie charts in the UK. Mascis was a major influence on the burgeoning grunge movement and was largely responsible for bringing back lead guitar to indie rock. He’s produced Buffalo Tom, made cameo appearances & wrote music for various films and rumour has it in 1990 he was going to join Nirvana as their drummer!
Dinosaur Jr. released their first major label recording Green Mind in 1991. That same year, they also appeared in the film The Year Punk Rock Broke, alongside Nirvana and Sonic Youth which showed how integral they had been in the grunge explosion. Critically acclaimed Where You Been and Without A Sound came out in ’93 & ’94 respectively. 1996 saw Mascis release his solo debut, Martin and Me, and soon disbanded Dinosaur Jr. after their 7th and final album Hand It Over was released early in 1997. J’s solo career continued with the release of More Light a couple of years later and was hailed as his best album in years. NME gave it their stamp of approval … "Coated in blatant ’70s AOR rock, casually tossed-away guitar fuzz, a timely reminder of his pervading influence."
J’s latest offering Free So Free (out now on Dew Process/Universal), his third post-Dinosaur Jr. outing, is a concept album about his latest passion: skydiving . "It was sometime last summer I first started thinking about it," J says. "Bob (J’s dog) was going to summer camp while I was touring. When I went to pick him up I found out that his favourite part of the vacation had been doing this skydiving workshop in Orange [Massachusetts]. They had a special Pet and Owner Skydiving Weekend not long after that. We both went, and it was real solid." Many of the songs for Free So Free were written in mid-air. "There’s something about reaching terminal velocity that really helps you open up," J says. "The whole freedom idea sorta evolved out of that, and also some of the playing that I was doing with Ron and Scott Asheton (The Stooges). Those guys have some real special notions about freedom. We talked about it a bunch."
We here at Feel are very proud (read ecstatic!) to announce that J.Mascis has confirmed a solo tour of Australia and New Zealand. From his pioneering beginnings with Dinosaur Jnr and his continuing great work with The Fog, J.Mascis has proved himself a true original. This time round, J will be travelling solo as he did back in 2000 when he sprung a surprise visit in Sydney and Melbourne. It’s national this time and takes in dates in New Zealand also. Expect the complete J.Mascis experience but this time, stripped back and solo. Dig it.
