i upgraded to debian etch a few weeks ago (tired of my shaky fedora setup), and incredibly pleased so far. no hassles!
April 28, 2007 at 4:38 pm #128217Well I’m actually not that impressed with it as I was with the previous version.
I use the computer for 3 things:
Listening to Music
Watching Video
downloading torrentsKtorrent crashes all the time now, and vlc player looks all grainy now.
Kaffeine doesn’t work at all, and that was my main player for videos.
Amarok still works, as you can see from my signature
I figure I’ll wait a little bit of time for some possible updates to come out, or go back to the previous version. Which was rock solid for me.

Well, at least it’s better than your computer blowing up…

go for debian if you want something rock solid! afaik, ubuntu/kubuntu is largely based on debian (and debian’s package system), so if you’re familiar with ubuntu, it should be a breeze to swap to debian. i set debian up on my centrino laptop, and was amazed that it just works…out of the box. i’ve also started to use xfce instead of gnome; all of sudden my computer responds quickly and doesn’t seem bogged down anymore. recommended.
May 2, 2007 at 12:50 pm #128220No gripes about Debian at all
Debian powers this web server right here.
At home I don’t like to mess with stuff. I’ve tried many a distro and kubuntu is the most out-of -the box for me.
I went back to the 6.06 version, and I’m good to go right now. -
