Is Mascis an Italian name?
February 10, 2007 at 2:37 pm #125789Always thought it was greek or eastern European.
February 10, 2007 at 3:22 pm #125790great thread.
February 10, 2007 at 6:09 pm #125791You’re right. This is fanboy/fangirldom at its finest!
February 11, 2007 at 8:04 pm #125792But he looks Italian
February 11, 2007 at 9:01 pm #125793Haha — You’re right: he does look a little Italian. Picture him with a Russian Winter hat on, though . . . . it could work. Or maybe a Sherlock Holmes hat and little pipe?
February 11, 2007 at 10:01 pm #125794I think someone said it was an sicilian name Masci or something

Senator Joseph Lieberman’s mom apparently thought so…..
February 12, 2007 at 2:18 pm #125798still, LOL, Well, I aint gonna say it never happens.
The real reason behind my laughter is the very remote thought that J could have been
named Shlomo………..but at the last minute his parents had a change of heart……..no,no lets just go with Joseph.but Tub I’m giving you a Karma for uhhhh, showing me the light…….I thought after Jesus, Joseph would be one of the most "Christian" names………….but being that Jesus was a Jew, I guess that one could swing both ways……….but it just never seems to.

Joseph is actually quite common as a Jewish name, now that I think about it. I know a Joseph Lowenstein, Joseph Greenberg, Joseph Rosenblatt, Joseph Stein, etc., etc. I had never thought of Joseph as an especially Christian name, but that might be because I grew up around lots of Jews.
February 12, 2007 at 3:32 pm #125800I went to a little private school in NYC……that was Jew Central. Lots of Avi, Adam, and Daniels… lots of Daniels. I have never run into a Jewish Joseph in fact it sounds funny to put those two words together for me…………because our family is Catholic, often we will meet friends during the week who also go to Sunday evening mass………aka the "hippie mass" aka "young persons mass" we will decided to meet up either on the "Joseph" side or the "Mary" side. I wonder if Joseph became a popular name for Jews after the holocaust as a Mothers secret desire to protect their sons by Christianizing the first name. Just a thought.
February 13, 2007 at 3:50 pm #125801thanks Bob. But It’s not Masci it’s Mascis. Strange name indeed.
