Lance Bangs is married to Sleater Kinney’s Corin Tucker, they have a kid called Marshall Tucker Bangs, I hope the kid doesn’t get traumatized when he learns that he is named after one of the most mindless boogie-bands of the late seventies/early eighties…. December 2, 2001 at 4:42 am #66499this thread may be as dead as dead as george harrison (testing the anti-PC threshold on this board), but ‘straw dogs’ is also the name of a movie from 1971. its directed by sam ‘the man’ peckinpah, and stars dustin hoffman. he’s a pacifist who turns to violence after his wife is raped in their house. its good–check it out. in fact, that bastard quentin tarantino supposedly took the ‘dogs’ part of ‘reservoir dogs’ from this movie (the first part being from ‘au revoir, les enfants’). but im sure SM and SS are adept in their pop culture references, so that would be my guess.

What is up with your nickname, "Spiral Stairs"? How did you get that?
I just made it up when we started the band.
Why?
We were trying to be mysterious in the tradition of some bands in the past. With like fake rock names. That was our schtick in the beginning. We were very mysterious and very cryptic.
(….didn’t know that myself, took some time to find it on the net…., den Buck)

Someone else who died recently: Michael Karoli, guitarist of Can, the German band that was a huge influence on Pavement (see earlier this thread)
