This is insane,I`ve been watching CNN for 2 hours, had enough it.
This is nothing this generation has seen.
Seems more like a movie then reality, the loss of life most over 200 thousand,I hope this insanity comes to a end soon.
The internet is busy here so I might get cut off.
Hope everyone here is ok.

Made it home ok..

Even though this is an act of terrorism as opposed to an attack from another country I’ll bet you that their will be war declared on the country that these terrorists call home if they do not join the US in the efforts to bring these people to justice. I have never supported Bush in the past but right now, I definatly would stand behind his actions reguarding this.

I am still in fucking shock…

I sorely am missing President Clinton right now. He would have been in New York and would have addressed the nation twice before Bush even got out of Florida.

I just think it is the President’s responsibility to reassure the people in times of crisis, and from George W. I feel absolutely no comfort and no security.

He keeps stirring up economic shit in the U.S., and he has so badly damaged our relationship with our European neighbors and other nations that no culprit, domestic or foreign, would surprise me. I think he is war-hungry and reactionary, and I think he is trying to carry out all this unfinished business on behalf of his old man. He wasn’t in office for 3 months before he started dropping bombs in Iraq, and we all know his record in Texas.

I don’t know if anyone else agrees with me, but I think the fact that Clinton was able to get Israel & Palestine to at least sit down and TALK together was a HUGE step in the direction of peace. But when Bush came into office, his administration immediately aligned itself with Israel and shot that possibility to shit. No wonder Palestinians were cheering today.

I’m not anti-Republican; I thought Mayor Giuliani did a fantastic job addressing the media and the people of New York, and I was very impressed with his resolve and sense of calm. I can "rally" behind any leader who has the capacity to genuinely comfort in times of distress.

I just wish W would have spent as much of his 3-minute speech reassuring the U.S. as he did promising us "vengeance". But I guess I will just have to take comfort in the fact that he only tripped over two words this time.

Please take care of yourselves. I consider so many of you my friends and you are all in my heart & in my thoughts….and I hope I haven’t totally alienated our Bush supporters. (Matt, does this mean we can’t get married now?)

Married!!! I should hope I’d get to at least meet you in person first, let alone, get to know you…

You haven’t alienated me. Perhaps I’m of a rare type, but I always look at an opinion from all angles and respect those who may not see things in the same light that I do. Besides, a little difference in opinion always makes for interesting and fun realationships… I abhor complacency. My ideal partner would stand up and make it well-clear when she felt me wrong on an issue, yet be willing to listen to my reasoning on the subject (a respect I always do my best to give others.)

I do like the fact the Bush is willing to go full on to find and punish the guilty party/parties. I agree that he could’ve been, perhaps, a little more conforting, but I hardly think the man was callous about the situation. From the look on his face as he was walking form his copter earlier this evening, I could see a look of devistation on his face. By my observations, he’s taking this worse than he’s letting on TV. I feel that w/ Gore, we’d have the opposite situation… Very sympathetic publically, but hesitant to go full force with the search and punishment of the guilty.

Bottom line is, our nation hasn’t been in a situation like this EVER. We’re facing an invisible enemy, that wears no uniform, has no face, is willing to die for the cause, and has no problem slaughtering innocent people by the thousands. There’s simply no presidence for this situation, we’re forced to play it by ear as things unfold. It still hasn’t sunk in for me and I can tell you that the next few weeks are going to be very interesting, especially the day after…

I must admit that I am relieved to hear from you Rosa. If I remember correctly, you often reside in New York. I don’t know if you were anywhere near the WTC or even in the city, but I’m glad you’re OK in any case. (and if I’m wrong about you living in NY, I’m still glad you’re OK. )

As for Tonyman’s post about Bush ‘scurrying’ about the nation for safty. My understanding is that he wasn’t doing that at all. His advisors were urging him to move to the nuclear-proof moutain base in Nebraska, but he ended up going back to the Whitehouse, even though it wasn’t necessarily safe. He had to bounce around a bit though, he is the president, AKA target #1 (#2 being the Pope.) Gore would’ve had to evecuate too, as would any president.

As for people being down on the president for his verbal slip-ups, I hardly think they’re relevant to his ability to do the job… Look at the man when he’s on TV, the guy’s seriously camera shy. Beside’s I slip up my words fairly often, I think it’s because my brain moves to fast for my mouth to keep up. Can’t knock a guy for something I’m just as guilty of doing myself…

Hello boys,

I think good communication skills are essential for and very much relevant to a leader’s ability to do a good job.

I really don’t think Bush is "camera shy"…and if he is, then shame on him for ever running for such a high-profile position!

You know, when I watch him on camera, it’s like I can hear the little neurons in his brain trying to connect with each other and form coherent thoughts….perhaps too much cocaine has addled his central nervous system?

Just a thought …don’t want to get too nasty here as I’m extremely exhausted and may come to regret it when dawn breaks…

But thanks for your concern Matt…it means a lot. I am from NY, and my Mom & I have been trying all day to get ahold of people on the east coast. It’s been difficult because the phone lines are so messed up, but so far everyone seems to be okay. A friend of mine in Brooklyn said it is just so weird to look out over the familiar Manhattan skyline and see a gaping hole where the Towers used to be.

Hope you all can get some sleep tonight…take care

Never been a george w fan here, but I don’t see that he’s been handling the situation badly so far. It can hardly be in america’s or the rest of the world’s best interest to put his life at risk any more than necessary. Surely the last thing we need now is a dead US prez. As for his latest speech, I thought it was straight to the point and not insensitive to the victims and their families at all. Never thought I’d find myself defending the guy, but now I sure hope I’ll be able to do it again, cuz his decisions to come will affect so many peoples lives, and not just in the states.

Just some thoughts from across the pond.

Glad everyone here is safe,I hope Flying Cloud gets in contact with her sister. It seemed the more the day went on the sicker I felt,I guess I was in shock at first,I thought it was a plane that went out of control and crashed into the wtc, when Allison said terrorists were involved and I heard 2 planes crashed into the wtc and the pentagon I realized this was something that was problably planned for years.
I went to school with palestinians and kids from other arab nations, they talked about the injustice of not having a country to call home,as Tony said this is the wrong way to achieve their goal. This will not give them their land. The arab kids I went to school with did`nt hate America or talk about terrorist acts, they we`re like any other kids.
I`ll let Dylan close this post:

I’ve been to NYC… if Nostradamus had said the "great new stinky armpit of the nation" I might be in awe.

Creepy… I’ve heard both of those quatrains repeated a few times since the tragedy. I don’t know about the first one, only the 2nd line and possibly, in the future, the 4th seem relevant at this point. It brings forth several questions. Is New York the city of God? I’ve never heard such a relation. But even more interesting… Who’s the ‘great leader’ and what is the ‘fortress’?

Now for the real spookfest, the 2nd quatrain you posted… It all fits, 2001 is the beginning of the new century, the 9, september obviously. But even creepier, New York’s longitudal location is somewhere around 45 degrees North!!! Hey All,

Been over 24 hrs and I am still hypnotized by the news, feeling numb, confused, overwhelmed and pissed. Usually pretty good at seperating my emotional/cognitive responses, not the case so far thru the last day

I agree with what Maxini said, not a huge fan of george w myself but definitely do not want to judge his responses to this situation yet.

Great posts thru this thread, no surprise really, but definitely encouraging to see the responses and supportive empathy to this tragedy from all of you!!!

Good call on the Husker Du lyrics Salamiguy, definitely on the mark with that tune. Robert that quote is absolutely frightening!! Great pics from the Watt site as well.

Hope everyone out there who can will donate some blood to the Red Cross, no doubt they will use every drop they have.

Again, all my thoughts are with those in NY and other areas effected by this tragedy.
