I don’t know if this topic has been done already but i thought i’d start it anyway. Just wanted to know if anyone can remember any really shit lyrics from any artist.

This one is from the usually good Lou Reed on ‘Hangin Round’.

"Cathy was a bit surreal, she painted all the toes/ And on her face, she wore dentures clamped tightly to her nose"

I love these ones Rooster – am always happiest when angry at poor lyrics!

OK – any Oasis, but in particular
        "she’s got a sister
and on the palm of her hand is a blister"

Deacon Blue – real gone kid
        "she’s a real gone kid
        maybe now baby
you’ll do what you should have did"

gonna have to go back to the talentless idiots Oasis again, the first song that Liam wrote, Little James, for Patsy Kensit’s kid
        "live for your toys
        even tho they make noise
have you ever played with plasticine
        even tried a trampoline
        thank you for your smile
        you make it all worthwhile
        to us "

WHY DO DUMB FUCKERS KEEP BUYING THESE TWATS RECORDS AND MAKING THEM THINK THAT THEY ARE THE BEATLES RE-INCARNATE. I WILL FIND YOU IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THEIR RECORDS, AND YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS THEN. SEVERE BEATS WITH THE TASTELESS STICK.

        Peace. <img>

Aw, I think that Kiss lyric is cute! *bats eyelashes*

            I vote for Puff Daddy/P Diddy/Shamoobidy Poobidy:

you a queen / therefore I treat you royal

And let’s not even get me started on Alanis Morrissette. As they said on SNL, ‘Alanis, not everything you write in your journal is a song.’

                TULSA TELEPHONE BOOK

Have you read any good telephone books lately?
If you ain’t then let me recommend one
I’ve already read that Tulsa telephone book through thirteen times
If you don’t know any last names it ain’t much fun

Readin’ that Tulsa telephone book, can drive a guy insane
Especially if that girl you’re lookin’ for has no last name
I gotta find her and tell her, I don’t want our love to end
So I’m readin’ that Tulsa telephone book again

Well, I was in Tulsa and didn’t have anything goin’
She lived in Tulsa and didn’t have anything on
She said, "My name is Shirley," and I said, "My name is T."
I woke up the next mornin’ and she was gone

All of the Tulsa operators know my voice now
And they gotta know how long I’ve been alone
If you meet a girl named Shirley with some ribbons in her hair
Would you tell her that she’s wanted on the phone

Readin’ that Tulsa telephone book, can drive a guy insane
Especially if that girl you’re lookin’ for has no last name
I gotta find her and tell her, I don’t want our love to end
So I’m readin’ that Tulsa telephone book again
I’m readin’ that Tulsa telephone book again

What’s the use of reading telephonebook when you don’t know her last name. I’ve been a fool in love several times but I don’t get this one! Second attempt to post this one

Had to dig deep in the FS vaults to find this topic again, but just heard this gem from Belgium’s answer to Tori Amos, she’s called An Pierle, she ‘performs’ her songs sitting on a skippy-ball while trying to murder a piano, and those lyrics…..:

"After 10 days of rain everything is soaking……..[dramatic pause]………..wet"

                    Wow, that’s……………………………………deep   :D

I think we discussed it before, but he gave an explanation at the 3voor12 show in Deventer about that line and the whole song. Why didn’t you buy that explanation? I forgot.
I agree that in terms of beauty and emotion it might not be one of J’s best lines, but I don’t see anything being wrong with the thought behind it.

so what is that explanation? I missed it.

The explanantion that J gave is that the song is directed to the terrorists who flew into the Twin Towers, and it refers to their saying that they did it for God. In the song, J is saying that he doesn’t buy that. "Tell the truth, you’re kidding me." I can see that point, more or less. But to say that: "I know God" — as if He runs the local record store — is either very arrogant or just plain naive. Granted that you even believe in God, which I don’t, you can’t speak with any certainty about who He — or She — is, and what He does and does not want.

Apart from that, the question is not whether God — or Allah — would actually approve of killing thousands of people. The question is whether the terrorists believed they were doing it for God. "I know God, and that’s just crazy." Okay, it is crazy. But then, these terrorists were a bunch of insane fuckers — so why would you expect them to have a sensible justification for their actions?

That’s exactly what I guessed it meant when I first heard the song. "There’s no way god would tell you to do that, I know the dude and that doesn’t sound lik him". I think it does make sense to think it as "the god I believe in would never do something like that".

Religious people do feel like they have a personal relationship with God. I don’t know which God J believes in (some Indian god perhaps?) but like you the line doesn’t sit well with me but that’s just because of my personal beliefs and I can’t expect every artists I like to share my views on everything.

I always liked how Dinosaur Jr was never about religion or politics but just inward and personla (I know the political is the personal to some people). My opinion of religion is the same as David Cross’s. Lines like "I know God" and "I need God beside me…" kind of make me cringe.

I didn’t ever have the impression that J is preaching, or that he wants people to take over his points of view, and generally his lyrics sound rather descriptive than personal, even when they appear to be personal from the first look.

As for the "I know god" line, I found it a very interesting question what absurd kind of believe it might be that led these terrorists to fly into the WTC, as from which ever imaginable concept of "god" you might start, this deed is still crazy.
So I thought this line to be rather an intellectual approach to the question of the terrorists’ motives, than being just plain "naive".

the worst lyrics i can possibly think of are, sadly, from a band that is usually very good…(Camp Kill Yourself). the lyrics, and song itself are just plain ridiculus and i was suprised…

                                "Attached at the hip"

failed attempts have turned us into one pathetic twisted wreck
all is eerie, you’re standing near me
I feel you breathing down my neck

you don’t need to be so shallow
turn your head prepare to follow

                                deep incision operation
                                the tortured one becoming two
                                involuntary, solitary
it’s nice to have a point of view

…..give me a break  it goes on from there… they should have REALLY left that one as the instrumental it origionally was… the music is pretty awsome, but the lyrics ruin the feeling. especially the "shallow……..follow" part… and that is their "hit"
